“Great Hotel, have booked again!!!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 17, 2012

Stayed here 31-3 Sept 2012, really nice hotel arrived late and staff were very welcoming. Rooms were amazing as was the comfy bed!!!!!! Lovely quiet area with nice parks surrounding, 15-20min ride on the number 13 tram, however, we did walk the tram route on one of the days which took about 1hr, but it was a lovely way to explore Amsterdam. Booked to stay here again in November.

Room Tip: We stayed on the 16th floor, the views were breathtaking and the skybar is right above you which is...

Stayed here for two nights while exploring the city.

Brand new hotel, lovely clean tidy rooms. A li'l out of the main city, but close to the tram lines in and out (20 mins).

No major concerns, room well appointed, clean, spacious for what you're paying, the bar has magnificent views from the 17th floor and the bartender makes a mean cosmo.

Nothing really to set it apart from other hotels, but no problems either.

Location wise, this hotel is situated in a quiet area close to centre of town via tram , meaning you dont get the noise while trying to sleep at night but the closeness of being located close to the centre . The tram drops you off about a two minute walk from the door of the hotel and in the centre of town . We stayed here in mid August with our nearly three year old toddler , the hotel at this int had only been opened about a week and a half . Aesthetically, the hotel looks the part , it is clean, modern and even has the new smell . The staff, especially those in the restaurant and bar, are exquisite and friendly . The options in the breakfast buffet are varied and deliciously fresh . The staff here were so wonderful . They were genuinely interested in having a friendly chat, interacted with a laugh with the children and even took our daughter by the hand at one point to escort her into the restaurant and help her choose her breakfast . The downfall with the restaurant was the fact they were on a "soft opening" and as such they had bar snacks and one tiny main to offer for dinner. Having we arrived a little late the first day we had a bit of trouble having an adequate meal as we were not aware of the lack of choice however the rest of the stay we ate in town before coming back to the hotel . This was more of a timing issue as they planned to have a full menu the following week . The restaurant itself has large glass windows all around it for an amazing view if the surrounds while enjoying a drink or meal . The dinner and bar area is in a different area to the breakfast buffet also , although on the same floor , they were separated via the greeting post . The rooms themselves are a little tight. We were first placed in a corner room which was decent sized and had two walls of gigantic windows which allowed for beautiful sunlight to enter the room . On the second day of our stay, however, there was a short fuse in the room which meant our air conditioning and lights no longer worked . We rang down to reception and it took quite a while for them to check the problem , eventually the manager came back and forwards two or three times checking the connection at the main box and finding it reconnected and then blew each time we switched the light switch on . Consequently we received a free drink at the bar and had. Move rooms two floors up and no longer a corner room which we found was significantly smaller and lacked a fridge in the room . This second room was quite tight and we had to repackage and cart all our luggage up two floors . Extremely inconvenient ! Hopefully they have fixed these issues by now , however they did tell us it could've been a minor issue which turned out to be a large circuit issue . The beds were not overly comfortable however the extra bed we recieved for our child was new, clean and in great condition . The pillows were smaller than average however which made it a little awkward to get comfortable also . Apart from these perhaps opening issues , the hotel and the staff , especially the older male breakfast clerk , we're wonderful .

Room Tip: Try for a corner room . Deluxe rooms are smaller when in the middle rather than the corner and you g...

Firstly I'd like to say that the hotel is brand new and not even fully open yet so I'm offering my comments to hopefully help iron out some of the kinks.
The shuttle service from the airport is great, it's off to the right past the local bus stops when you leave the airport building. The driver was lovely and made sure to show us the local eateries (a kfc and a turkish restaurant, nothing exciting) and the 13 tram stop on the way to the hotel which very helpful.
The reception was still having work done but was very plush and with free use of pcs and printing facilities which was very useful for boarding passes etc. The staff at reception were helpful for the most part but it is clear that they are still training and this means that our check in took quite some time, also we had booked room only and wanted to put breakfast on the bill which was fine but more than a bit expensive; even on a 'newly opening' deal of €12.50 per person, per day I find that a bit steep for a standard breakfast buffet and seriously the standard price of €17.50 is ludicrous, I'd want gold plated eggs and diamonds on toast for that! So if you want breakfast make sure to get it included with your room.
The actual restaurant 'floor 17' where breakfast is served is beautiful and the view of the city is excellent, again the staff are mostly very pleasant but it does feel a bit like they're watching you the whole time to make sure you don't try and nick anything and get your money's worth! However there was one lovely man who was very friendly and chatted to us and gave us tips about the city and what to do, he made breakfast a more personal experience! The food was standard buffet fare, although we were very disappointed by the lack of bacon. I mean what self respecting buffet had 2 types of peanut butter and no bacon?
Now my main problem with this hotel is the rooms. The decor is to a very high standard and the beds with their memory foam mattress topper were nice and comfortable but if you are here on holiday you will not have anywhere near enough storage space. Also if you have more than one suitcase you will have nowhere to put them, the rooms are definitely designed for business men with one suit and not a lot else and we found this rather frustrating. The whole layout of the rooms is just a bit too masculine and  illogical for me and the rooms lack space.  We also found that all the electricals in the room had gremlins which need sorting. The tv came on at 6.30 in the morning even though we had deliberately switched the alarm off, the phone lit up several times in the middle of the night, the air con was tricky to work out and we were sometimes cold and the connection to the wifi was a joke. Clearly these gremlins need ironing out!
We also found the housekeeping lacking; the tea and coffee facilities were never replenished (we were there for 4 nights) and one day we did not get the rooms cleaned at all! Personally I would also like to see some sort of directory in the room about services, how to work the aircon and tv etc; everything was pretty much guess work.
And now my final point which isn't a fault of the hotel but I think it needs taking into consideration; the distance to the centre. Let me firstly say that if you are looking to be close to the city centre, don't let the name of this hotel fool you. The hotel is at least 15mins on the 13 tram to the Dam Square and almost an hours walk. While the tram service is excellent and very frequent if you want to buy a tram ticket for more than 24 hours you will have to get to central station first!
This was our first time in Amsterdam so we may have been naive with our choice of hotel but let me tell you, if this is your first time in Amsterdam and you want to be in the heart of it all then this is not the hotel for you, choose somewhere closer to the centre and enjoy. If you are a businessman staying a couple of nights then this hotel will be perfect once the kinks are ironed out; it will be a quality hotel with great facilities, a little pricy but nice. If you are going to Amsterdam on holiday or for any other reason, find somewhere else to stay.

At the time of our stay (August 2012), the hotel had been open only for a week. As one would expect from a brand new hotel, it was clean, stylish and comfortable. Friendly staff. Location-wise, not walking distance to the centre, but a tram stop was just around the corner - easy access all the way to Dam Square.
If breakfast was included, it would have been excellent value for money, considering the limited dining options in the area. Parking fee was at the cost of EUR 25 per day.

This newly opened (08/2012) high rise hotel provides quality accommodation at a reasonable price in a pricey city. Urban chic (read exposed electrics, ventilation, plumbing and concrete floors) greet you at reception where I found the receptionist (Hilly) both charming and helpful. My room was compact with a reasonable sized bathroom, but my view from the 15th floor was a delight at sunrise.

Breakfast was 15 euro and OK and a little ordinary. Dinner menu was limited and not to my taste and somewhat expensive I feel. Garaged car parking is steep at 25 euro per day when free from 21:00 to 09:00 outside the front door. Other reviewers have referred to the reputation of the locale and this should be considered when offering residents a secure car park. This hotel is some way from the city centre and has very little to offer in the area in terms of alternative dining options.

Overall, I would like to stay again if the dinner menu was improved and extended and parking costs addressed.

Room Tip: Request a higher room as they offer some impressive views over the city.

Dear John,

Thank you for your kind email.
Our receptionist, Hillie, was very enthusiastic about your email.
Since we are open since August our dinner menu was limited. Since this week we extended our menu.
We know that parking in Amsterdam is expensive. We have our own parking garage because of the convenience of our guests.

Again, we appreciate the time you have taken to write this review. It enables us to improve our standards.
We trust to have informed you sufficiently and do hope to welcome you again in the near future.

Kind regard,

Imre Heijboer

We stayed in the Ramada Hotel for one night. We really enjoyed our stay. The view from our room and from floor17 was amazing! The staff was very helpful and kind. The hotel is just renovated. The location is good, a nice park just in front of the hotel.
