“Nice good quality hotel, well located”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 17, 2013

Hotel JL No 76 was on Jan Luijkenstraat street which seemed to be a reasonably quiet street [despite a primary school] which contained numerous hotels. It does require a taxi ride from the airport which from memory was around 30 euros for us & took about 15-20 minutes. It’s a nice small boutique style reception & small’ish hotel. You can walk down the end of the street to the Rijksmuseum & not much farther to the Heineken factory & tour. Also it is close to trams. There is an ‘honour bar’ system in the reception in order to take drinks & you leave your room number for it to be charged to you later. Turning right from out of the hotel you can walk down to the main road & turning left at that point you will be not far away from a supermarket which has all your basics at cheaper prices, open til 10 pm. What I also liked was our room had a dvd player & you could borrow dvd’s from reception. The room itself was quite nice, cosy [small] but we had a small balcony overlooking the street which was nice. Nicely furnished & bed was comfortable, tv was modern & as I said dvd player was good. Bathroom was not really a bathroom though, the sink was a double design so handy for couples, but it was placed out of the main bathroom & just inside of the door, with the toilet, bath & shower being separate inside the bathroom. Unusual layout as I’m used to the bathroom being a totally separate contained area but hey at least it’s not the toilet sitting out amongst the room. The shower was unfortunately weak pressure & only a rainhead rather than a combined or dual layout for anyone who might prefer a normal showerhead, also it is more like one wetroom in there as there is a glass door you can partially pull across between the shower & toilet but really you can’t avoid it going Everywhere, even over the only place in the bathroom where you can hang your towels up. It was a puddled messy lake in the bathroom for hours afterward, kind of annoying. Breakfast was decent enough & cheaper if you pre-book it, but fairly bland food & narrow eating space, service was good & they can make an omelette or eggs generally separate if you request it. Overall I did find the room comfortable & I should note that the evening staff were actually very friendly & accommodating [get it? ]. I particularly noticed this as hubby jumped on a tram too fast for me one night in the middle of the city, having been chivalrously holding my bag at the time, as my mouth fell open in dismay watching him ride away I realised I was stranded after following & not finding him at the next various stops. Over an hour later having obtained a map from another hotel, I eventually found myself back on foot & the young man at 76 had already been contacted by my hubby & was very nice & discreet in connecting me via phone to chat to him, walking away to give us privacy & help save our marriage etc. Wifi states a charge in the folder material in the rooms but was actually free which was quite good. Overall I’d stay again & liked the hotel, again not exactly cheap but nothing in Europe generally is

Room Tip: Our room was quiet on level 2 [away from lift]

this is a good and comfortable hotel in an excellent location. minutes walk from the main museums of Amsterdam and with excellent public transport to the center of Amsterdam just across the road.
The rooms are modern and well equipped but on the small side and if you are a large person or two large people you will fill a bit cramped. Wifi is free.
Ask for a high floor facing the nice tree lined street, and beware of the lower ground floor.
It will allow you a late check out for a fee, which may be very convenient if you have a late flight.
As all reasonable hotels in Amsterdam it is on the expensive side.

Recently stayed at this hotel with some work colleagues and we had a very pleasant experience.

The hotel is on a beautiful tree-lined typical Amsterdam street, it's an old property but full of modern luxuries, the reception and bar area is full of beautiful furniture and there is well stocked honesty bar, breakfasts were served here and we're really good.

My room was really spacious with a really high ceiling, my bed was extremely comfortable and full of everything you would expect from a hotel of this quality, free wi-if, flatscreen TV, DVD player, mini bar, nespresso coffee machine, plus some nice touches like a tv in the bathroom, plug sockets for uk and us appliances and a jacuzzi bath.

Overall the hotel was a vey high quality and beautiful place to stay and I would go back on business or for a weekend break.

we stayed in room 207 which was supposed to be the deluxe room.
we payed almost 200 euros a night and it really wasnt worth it.
the room supposed to be 30sqm but i dont think its over 20sqm.
the room for itself is beautiful and impressive but that what we expect from a normal 4 star room, but it was not.

the positive: the staff! they are super nice! if you are new to the city this is the place to stay in, just get a normal size room.

Good location, a 10 minute tram ride from city centre and right next to the fashion district with expensive shops and some nice cafes. Room was very nice, clean with modern interior and the bed was really comfortable. Staff very helpful with directions and taxis. would stay here again.

I had booked a 1 night stay for €110, which seemed pretty good value by Amsterdam standards. On arrival we were offered an upgrade to an executive room on the 2nd floor for €140 including breakfast which we accepted, The executive room wasn't especially large (few things are in Amsterdam!) but was cleverly designed and equipped with a Nespresso, jacuzzi and tv in the bathroom, Breakfast was good with bread fresh from the oven and a good spread of other items, We took an early night and enjoyed a (very reasonably priced) last drink in the hotel - it felt like being left alone in the very nice house of a friend:-) The staff were helpful, though I never got the WiFi working correctly on my iPhone:-(.

The location was good: on a quiet elegant street tucked in between the 3 big museums and the upscale shops of PC Hoofstraat. Trams will take you most other places and the 197 bus goes directly to Schiphol airport.

Room Tip: The rooms at the front are nice and bright but still quiet,

The location is at a quiet street in the museum area, it is 5 minutes by walking from the hotel to Van gogh museum. Generally speaking, the room is clean and modern. I am not sure whether the holiday season caused the high price(over 200 Euro per night), and then low value of the budget hotel, because basically the everything in this hotel is compact rather than a design hotel claimed on the booking introduction. But if you can get a reasonable price, the hotel will be a perfect stay in Amsterdam.

Room Tip: Take the tram No 2or No5from the train station to the museum area .
