“Super Hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 4, 2009

Stayed at the Bilderberg Garden Hotel for 3 nights and had a great stay. The hotel is located about 3 km away from the center of Amsterdam but within a few minutes walk you can get on to the tram no. 5, 15 or 24 taking you straight to the center of the city. The hotel is in a very nice neighbourhood with the museum and fashion district in walking distance. Parking is €24 per day but you can use the Park and Ride facilities in the nearby Olympisch Stadion and pay only €6 per day. You dont need your car when getting around Amsterdam anyway. We went on a 4 days/3 nights deal with breakfast included + 1 dinner at a nearby restaurant. We didnt have high expectations for the dinner but it turned out that we had a fantastic 3 course meal in one of the better restaurants in Amsterdam. Try it out, it is named "Spring" and located 10 minutes walk from the hotel.

I would rate the hotel as follows:

Location 3 of 5 (but you know this before you go)
Staff 5 of 5
Room 5 of 5
Cleanliness 5 of 5
Breakfast 3 of 5 (great buffet but a 5 for me is something like Hilton buffet)
General comfort 5 of 5
Area/Neighbourhood 5 of 5

Overall 4 of 5

We paid a total of €392 for 3 nights breakfast included and 1 dinner at restaurant Spring. Excellent value for money!

The Bilderberg Garden is a ok hotel. We booked it through hotwire.com and got a good price. I would never have paid full price. It's not that nice. The first room we stayed in was fairly spacious with a good bed. The next two nights we upgraded to an executive room. This room was much bigger, but the bathroom was actually smaller. But the upgrade was only €30. Otherwise the hotel is very expencive. €10 for 1 hour with wireless internett. The breakfast was €22. But there is a refrigerator in the room, so we had food in there.
The hotel is situated outside the city center, 20 minutes by tram from the central station and about 10 minutes from Leidesplein. The closest tram station from the hotel is just 3 minutes. And the tram leaves every 5 min. But it is to far to walk to the city center. I think this is the biggest problem with the hotel.

Went on a three day break, found the Hotel very clean and relazing. Room was cleaned twice a day and the staff were very helpfull. Tram stop round corner 5/24 which will take you straight into town (never waited for more than 5 mins) Vondelpark is a must, and is a 10 min walk from the hotel.
5 star Hotel with 5 star surroundings. Cant wait for next year !!!!!!!

After reading the extensive and conflicting reviews of this hotel, I ended up with a reservation here after a bid on Hotwire. Considering I got it for $260 US for TWO nights (about 92 Euros/night, including tax!!) I really can't complain at all. We got off on the wrong tram and had a long walk full of expletives on the way there, but when we got there realized the actual stop is only about 3-5 min. Actually, even that is slightly annoying but really not bad.

Upon arrival, there were no problems, and they immediately offered us an 'executive' upgrade for 25 euros/night, which I declined (this seemed slightly sketchy somehow) They also informed us that breakfast was 22 euros, but if you booked in advance it was only 15. I was hesitant, but it seemed convenient and we booked it. A good decision as the breakfast buffet is really excellent - everything from Belgian waffles to lox. No, it's not the best, best ever, but for 15 euros, was very lovely, friendly staff, and they didn't hit you with any extras. They even have free mimosas!

In terms of location, the area is suburban and very lovely, but kind of far from the central area. Now mind you Amsterdam is small and frankly you could walk still walk here from Central Station in probably 30-40 min, but it would have been nice to be closer. Plus, if you are out past midnight (which I pretty much always am) the only way home is taxi, which ends up being in the 12-14 euro area. Would have been much nicer to just walk home.

However, aside from that, the place is quite nice. Lobby is lovely and modern. There is a bar and very nice and chic eating area outside. Staff doesn't seem that well trained (I agree with other reviews on this) but generally friendly and helpful - certainly not overly so, however. One reviewer said the water pressure was bad - my shower had more pressure than anywhere else in Europe that i have stayed! Might have been because I was on the first floor. Rooms are not nearly as nice as the lobby - probably on the level of a medium-sized city Holiday Inn. But clean and certainly quite decent. Bathroom was spotless and nice lotions and such.

One other sketchy thing - when I checked out, they had added a 6 euro 'internet booking' fee. I'm sure this is totally outside of the hotwire agreement, but it wasn't a lot and I was simply not up to arguing about it. I might call Hotwire and see what they say. Oh, and internet is expensive - very annoying.

Won't stay here again, but mostly because of location.

I got a nice upgrade to an Executive room, which I would definitely book the next time. Large room with all good facilities, but we liked the jaccuzzi especially! The quality of the breakfast was also very good, as well as the staff there.

Uncomplicated comfort in a clean, well maintained, quiet atmosphere. Rooms were designed for simple, comfortable luxury with good proportional amenities. Hotel location was good to World Trade Center complex, tram and train access points to/from airport as well as near by local eateries with great food. The service staff was outstanding and professional - special acknowledgement to Lucas N. who was courteous, knowledgeable and exceptional in his accommodation to guest requests and making this American feel comfortable about venturing out and navigating the unfamiliar city of Amsterdam. His recommendations on local eateries, hot spots, and must sees really enhanced the value of my week long stay. The Bilderberg Garden Hotel has found a successful formula. Highly recommended!

The hotel is fine, clean, a bit tired in places, poor water pressure for the shower, staff who have obviously had very little or no training but who seem friendly enough, mediocre room service food, expensive rates, little in the way of facilities, nice area near a tram stop, I'm sure you can get the picture. I think they probably get a lot of guests on the back of the Hilton being full. Would I recommend it, maybe for a business trip when you don't need much more than it offers but probably not for anything special.
