“Very good value hotel.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 days ago NEW via mobile

We were a little unsure what to expect after reading the other TA reviews, as some are very poor. Our experience was very good. The receptionist was helpful, and as we were early offered to swap us into another room so we could check in straight away. We chose to wait for out room though, and had a drink in the bar. As mentioned in previous posts, you are required to pay 100 euro retainer for mini bar etc. but I think that's pretty standard isn't it? On arrival at the room we were impressed, it was big, and clean and the bathroom was nice and clean and well stocked. We realised we were unable to connect to the wifi, so rang reception, and they came to our room with a passcode. I wonder if the other people who complained about wifi charges had bothered to ask at reception? When unpacking we realised we had forgotten to pack a power adapter, so rang down to reception, and they brought one straight up to our room to borrow! We never bothered with breakfast as it was pricy. There are plenty of places nearby. Travel wise, we found the trams easy to use. No 5 from town stops about 1/4 mile from the hotel and is regular. I recommend buying a 24/48h tram pass as soon as you arrive in Amsterdam.

Location: About 35 minutes from Amsterdam Centraal station by tram. There is 4 trams which one could take to the Bilderberg. Tram 16 & 2 the stop is Emmerstraat while Tram 24 & 5 the stop is Apolollan. We found stopping at Apolollan is nearer and more straight forward to the hotel. It is about 2 stops away from Musuemplein but pretty far to town centre. The hotel itself is located in a quite neighbourhood thus noise is not an issue.

Check-in: Had to wait for a bit due to having only 1 receptionist when I arrived but when it is my turn it was pretty quick & easy. Requires 50 Euros deposit a night.

Room: Pretty standard room. Bed & pillows was comfortable. SHower pressure was not strong enough for my liking but it was bearable. Getting the right temperature could be tricky as well but once it is set, it is fine.

Service: All staff was courteous. Always greeted us whenever they see us. There is also turn down service where they will leave green apples.

Ammenities: Free wifi via voucher code. Gym & pool would require one to walk across the street to a fitness centre where extra payment is required. Due to this I cannot consider the Bilderberg as a 5 star establishment. I have been to hotels where there are off-site ammenities available but hotel guest receives complimentary entry.

My partner and I wanted to find a good-value quality hotel for a week-end stay near the VondelPark/Museum area. Bilderberg Garden is billed as a 5-star hotel and we got a room for 4 nights at a bargain 112Euros per night. We went from London via Eurostar so the travel was easy-peasy and comfortable. And, with a 4-day TravelPass (20Euros) it was just a short tram-ride (#16) to the hotel - get off at Amerstraat stop - then a 5-minute walk to the hotel.

The hotel is actually now more a 4-star hotel as others have raised the standards, BUT it is still very comfortable and well-serviced. The area, Apollo, is a very quiet middle-class residential area but near many shops & restaurants on nearby Beethovenstraat. We were settled-into our room quickly and painlessly by the efficient front-office staff and concierge.
The room was ample-size, the king-size bed was superb (so we slept well), and bathrobes+bathroom were fine BUT the water pressure was low and the radiator wasn't working. However, a quick phone call got the water somewhat improved and they supplied an electric fan heater to compensate; we also had the option to change rooms but we decided to stay-put.

The hotel has a good, if expensive, restaurant which we didn't use; except for breakfast on one morning...the 17euros pp charge is a bit steep (albeit standard for the city hotels) but they did my soft-poached eggs well, the bacon was fabulous, and all the other standard items were good; apart from the lack of stewed fruit (prunes, apricots etc)! They were not used to heavy tea-drinkers, showing surprise that we drank #8 cups of English Breakfast tea; but that educated them about the English ! There was a similar issue about the miserly number of English tea bags left in the room for the tea/coffee-making service....felt like we were in the 18/19th century when tea was so expensive!....but again all quickly resolved.

The Bilderberg is a great place to stay if you want a quiet 'home-base' AND easy access to the museums, the central shopping & eating places and the canals.

The staff are very courteous, helpful and accommodating.

Bon chance!!

Room Tip: Ask for an upper-floor room.

The rooms were nice and a good breakfast buffet. The hotel does not have a gym, you get a voucher and go across the street to gym where you par about seven euro for a workout. Tax is not included in the hotel price... which is kind of strange.

The Bilderberg Garden Hotel is located in a very residential area of Amsterdam. The rooms are well equipped although the corridors look a little bit cold with the white color. Good level of service. Keep in mind that you will be charged a 8 EUR city tax.

This is an excellent hotel located in a beautiful, quiet residential neighborhood. It is one block to tram, walking distance to museums. The staff was excellent, provided good advice with a friendly, positive attitude.

I took my boyfriend here for his 21st birthday and booked with Expedia. I can see why they only show the ground floor in their image - you walk towards the entrance and look up, the windows are filthy and the building looks very old fashioned in comparison to the front. We then entered the hotel which was nice until we were asked to give a 150euro reserve for the mini fridge in the room during check in. This wasn't mentioned on Expedia's page nor any conformation emails which I was extremely annoyed about.

We then carried on to the room which was very nice (hallways were a bit dated) and there was a door open leading into what seemed to be the next room, we walked in to find a living room which we didn't know if it was ours to use or not - again, we weren't told.

On Expedia, it said that the hotel offers free Wi-Fi (which it doesn't) so we had to pay extra again for Wi-Fi.

During check out I asked when I would be getting my 'reserve payment' back to which I was told within 24 hours. It's been 34 and I still haven't received the payment. In addition, we were told that we had to pay 20euros city tax which also wasn't mentioned anywhere!!!

Overall, nice hotel ROOM and comfortable bed but a bit too far from the city centre.

Room Tip: room 1128 was nice.
