“More like 3 star than 5!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 8, 2013

If you do not want to stay in the busy city centre then this hotel is ideally situated.
It is far enough away from the hustle and bustle but just a short tram journey away from it all, and the hotel is just 3 or 4 minutes walk from the tram stop itself.

The hotel is very clean and the staff are very helpful; however, I do not feel the hotel deserves a 5 star rating.
The room was very basic. In my opinion a 5 star hotel should be excellent - this hotel is good but not excellent.

Although a bit off the beaten path, excellant public transportation more than compensates for this. Located in a quiet, upsacal residential area close to aforementioned transportation and an easy walk to the Rijksmuseum, the hotel is very neat and clean with very helpful staff. Rooms were well appointed anthough our room seemed to be split off from a suite with foldout and rollaway beds yet still quite comfortable. Would absolutely not hesitate to reccommend or stay here again.

I booked an executive room, which is really small with a very small bathroom.
Such room has more than the normal ones but these should be standard in all rooms, like umbrella, coffee machine, desk. The CD-player (a very old one with audIo tapes) did not work.
On TV there was Radio 4 (classical) which was great but Classic FM was not although in the list and no film channels.
Jacuzzi in bath but you dont get to feel very much,
Reception staff is friendly but that is all I can say about this very disappointing hotel.
I now understand why it it is the cheapest 5 star in Amsterdam. Because it is actually just a 4 star hotel. They dont even have a pool. A big mystery how this got 5 stars, a huge mistake..
The room manual with info contains a lot of errors in English and even a big one in Dutch so they are pretty careless.
Easy to reach, tram 5 from Amsterdam RAI or Central .

Room Tip: There are no good rooms, not for a 5 star hotel at least.

The hotel is easily reached from Schipol. Simply take the train to Zuid and then catch the tram (number “5” or “24”). The hotel is no more than a 5 minute walk from the tram stop.

The hotel itself isn’t the most attractive from the outside. Internally it is smart and looks the part. The room was a good size, clean and modern. Comfy bed, with a proper double mattress and great pillows.

Staff at check-in were friendly and helpful, as was the concierge. You can buy tram tickets at the hotel if you want to.

The location isn’t the most central but it is in a beautiful residential area with a number of great bars and restaurants near by. But it is easy enough to walk to many of the museums and parks. And if you want to get into the very centre, it is very easy on the tram. I would recommend taking either the numbers “5” or “24”. You can also take the "2" if you want to.

Overall, I would recommend this hotel.

First off.... Room was spacious and clean so clean clean ladies came in more than once a day. Bathroom large and also clean. Hotel staff nice and knowledgable. Location is 20 mins from center located in SE but only 10 mins to museum complex.

Gotta get a drink for Frank at the bar. Gives insider tips on how not to get snubbed by locals and best places in town.

Lastly only bad thing is wifi is not free but I recommend you rent a bike for at least a day on your visit from the hotel. Cheap bikes and quality.

Don't be put off by the rather disappointing outward appearance of the hotel - it is, however, a pity that the "modern" building sits rather uncomfortably alongside stylish residential properties.

This is a good location if you want access to the city but enjoy quiet, civilised hotels. The nearest tram stop is about 6-7 minutes walk away, with a 5 minute tram ride getting you into the start of the city centre. About 7-10 minutes walk away is a supermarket, other shops and a couple of restaurants, mainly of use if you can't be bothered to venture back into the city.

The hotel is clean, comfortable and well run but does not obviously bristle with the extras that one usually finds in a 5-star hotel. Equally, the choice of cooked buffet breakfast was adequate, but not a cornucopia and is very expensive. The restaurant is definitely "fine dining" but the choices on the menu are very limited and expensive so we dined in the city (much more choice but almost as expensive!). The room was a good size, with mini-bar fridge and free safe in wardrobe. We did not use wifi internet, but it appears this has to be paid for separately.

The nearby Vondel Park is well worth a visit.

If you are mobile, it is quite possible to walk into the city centre but this will takewell over 40 minutes, depending on your walking speed.

Room Tip: It's a small hotel with about 90 rooms on two floors so not much choice but our room given to us...

Stayed for four nights, upgraded to an executive room which had a bay window, very clean and comfortable. Free internet connection with the upgrade. Breakfast was dreadful certainly not 5 star and not worth the 17.50 euros I understand they charge when room only is booked, if you like a cup of tea take your own tea, we found it was in short supply at this hotel and the same we experienced in another hotel we stayed in last year. The bar and lounge area was plain and made me feel, is this it. If you want to enjoy the city this hotel is too far out, five minutes from the tram which may not sound much and at least 15 minutes Tram ride. The American Bar is one to visit with its high ceiling and art deco surroundings we really enjoyed a fish platter which did not come cheap but well worth the memory. Amsterdam is a wonderful city, but its a must to pay for a central hotel.
