“Great Spot for a trip to the Dam”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 19, 2014

Clean hotel with nice rooms and attentive staff. U didnt eat and was fleeting in and out a lot as was at a wedding - but wasnt too expensive - we paid £200 for a twin per night for 2 nights. The bar was good and well stocked - though the hotel bar was shut at 3am and was a mission when we tried to get a drink late doors. Not the most central of places - but nothings really too far in Amsterdam so it was no big deal. Made a pretty good Aperol Spritz as I recall... Free wi-fi alway a wiiner. 5 bars. Fast. Id go back.

This hotel was booked by my girlfriend as part of my birthday visit to Amsterdam and she managed to find a real gem.
As you enter reception you notice straight away the old leather suitcases that are behind the main checkin desk, It looks stunning.
The gentleman who checked us in was very pleasant and we had a nice conversation with him about our trip. He even walked us to our room.
The room itself was fantastic. It has a view of the canal, the bathroom had plenty of space and the bed was really comfortable.
We found that the hotel was ideally located as your opposite one tram line that goes up and down the street and then you had another route which has a stop just a minutes walk away from the hotel.

Most reviewers rightly compliment the staff on being very friendly and helpful in this spotlessly clean hotel but there are some annoying quirks!
"Fashionable" coffee machine in the room has ingredients for only three tiny cups of coffee.
The mini bar is in fact a small vending machine so one can't use it as a fridge.
We needed instruction on the use of the hi-tec light switches and still weren't sure the bulbs hadn't gone anyway!
Tips- a large supermarket is three minutes walk away, other side of canal (there is a bridge outside the hotel!) Their off-license isn't open Sundays.
-A further ten minutes gets you to the Rijks Museum (World famous Flemish art, 15 Euro) On the way you can visit the Heineken Experience which is 10 Euro more than the museum!
-There is a continual stream of tourist canal boats passing the hotel but most in a clockwise direction around the system so one could board one for sightseeing as well as transport to say the Royal Palace or Central station (both beautiful buildings) but the return journey is through a laberinth of canals being part of a two hour trip. Furthermore, they aren't that frequent from the hotel (see timetable on noticeboard by small landing stage) whereas by the Rijks there seem to be more of them.
-The Old Church is interesting only because it is large, without much inside and in the centre of the Red Light district.
-Hotel is within 10 minutes walk of the main eating/ drinking area, on the way one passes a few shops.
-Great care with cyclists who don't stop for red lights (traffic ones, that is,) and woe betide you if you walk along a cycle lane if one of them is coming. The small roads by the canals are fraught with not only the cyclists but electric cars so one can't hear the impending danger from behind.
-There are tram stops outside the hotel (you don't hear them as the hotel windows are sealed) for north/south destinations.
No doubt there are hotels nearer the centre but they would need to be a pretty high standard and reasonably priced to beat this one.

Room Tip: Ours at the back was an annoying wedge shape. Small bedroom, oversized shower room but no bath.

Dear MWlshw,

Thank you for taking the time to write a review on this website. We are pleased that you had a comfortable stay with us and appreciated our staff and cleanliness so much.

We also thank you for your feedback and tips for future guests. The Nespresso capsules are usually sufficient for most people and they are presented in a special box, which only allows for 3 capsules to be put inside. The minibars provide for more accurate and faster postings on our guests' invoices, avoiding waiting time upon check out, which has been the main reason to install those. Of course we are more than willing to keep, for example medicine, for our guests upon request. Our light system works exactly the same as home, only the lights can be controlled both from beside the door and beside the bed, increasing the convenience for our guests.

The tips you mentioned are indeed very useful for anyone visiting Amsterdam and especially for those staying at Hotel Notting Hill. We really appreciate this.

Thank you again for your positive remarks and tips, we hope that we may welcome you again soon in our hotel.

Warm regards,

Team Notting Hill

This hotel gives you everything you could want, tram line right outside the door takes you straight in to the centre. Quiet area so you have an excellent sleep in their amazing big beds and rooms. The staff are very friendly, the person who checked us in was an absolute delight. Really loved this place nothing at all to complain about. Beautiful stunning hotel and rooms.

This was not my first visit to Amsterdam but it was the first time I've stayed in a hotel worth writing about. VERY clean, spacious and comfortable with a touch of luxury. Great location for walking and great location to the #4 tram stop. Staff was kind and accommodating at check in, with baggage hold and with getting us a last minute taxi. I will only be staying here on future visit and will highly recommend to all who will be visiting.

Room Tip: The 4th floor rooms have no windows but, there are two skylights. It added to the comfy atmosphere a...

I stayed here for a week. The hotel is amazing and is in walking distance of most places but if you need to take a tram the stop is opposite. The room was nice, fantastic bathroom and the bed was comfy. The staff were very friendly and nothing was to much trouble. The wifi was quite strong in the room. Definitely stay here. It's wonderful and a lovely stay.
