“A definite in amsterdam”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 19, 2013

Booked this , as I do with much research on TA. went to amsterdam last year and stayed somewhere in the same area , have to stay this hotel is fab , everything I wanted for a comfortable short break. Take tram 4 from centraal , hotel opposite stop.reception staff great and bar staff even better , Rick, and Tyroods (I think , great conversation and a credit to the hotel for being imformative about the world and amsterdam!)
The bar area is fab, we stayed in room 216 , quiet , good blackout blinds, good shower , bed so comfy, nespresso machine and good rain shower.wardrobe was tiny but we took the ironing board out so no issues. Funky lighting, we didn't eat here breakfast seemed expensive at 20euro, but we don't normally eat breakfast. Less than 10 mins to a fab selection of restaurants ant to the Van Gogh etc
Loved this place and the team , great job, will be back very soon.

Room Tip: Back rooms are great and quiet

Hotel Notting Hill is located in a business area of Amsterdam, but quite close to the city centre and open air markets. A tram stop is right opposite the hotel.
The hotel offers exceptional service by its staff, great breakfast and well-equipped rooms (they even have an instant espresso machine).

On the other hand, rooms are not that spacious (probably due to the equipment). The biggest drawback was that for the price level of this hotel you would expect a proper good-quality mattress for a good night's sleep, but instead there was a mat on a divan bed (see photo). I did not find it comfortable at all.

Stayed here on business and arrived just before 10pm. The staff were very accommodating. The kitchen shuts at 10pm but they organised for us drop our bags off in the room and then arranged a table for dinner - a pretty good standard of food and service!

The room was nice - a little on the small side, but modern and with decent facilities.

Good location, 5 mins walk from the Heineken Experience so pretty handy for a variety of local tourist attractions.

Would definitely stay again and recommend to others

Very bad :
- the check-in : teh receptionnist was very rude even impolite, was chocked because I want to read the paper for the garantee before signing.Prefer to talk with his friends/collègues (difficult to know exactly)
- the garantee : be carefull about. He asks the credit card to take 100€ as garantee, tell you that it won't be charged but they do it. I sent a complaint by my travel agency and I wait for the reaction of the hotel. I specify that all of the stay was paid before the arrival.

In my opinion, these two errors are unforgivable for a hotel of this status.

Very good :
- the breakfast
- the check-out : The staff was very smiling and helpful.
- Hotel very clean.

IN conclusion, I think that the hotel should be more careful in the selection of his staff and to pay much more attention on the honesty in the financial transactions. It's a pity to show two faces to the customers.

The room was clean. The service was professional and good. It is right on a canal near the Heineken experience. Nice location. Recently renovated. Very easy walk to The Pijp, Rembrandt Square (Plein), Vondelpark, The museums, shopping and isn't far from town center. Recommended.

Basically I loved this hotel, I am into beautiful interior design work, and this hotel had it. Their black/white theme was well executed and somehow the hotel felt cozy, quaint and comfy. I hate to say this about a hotel I liked so much (did I mention it is only one block from a wonderful outdoor market that is well worth visiting?) but I really feel they need to tell hotel guests if their room is in the basement or not. I wish I wasn't affected by small spaces without much light, but I am. I tried to change my room but they just didn't have anything else to give me.
Would I stay there again? Most likely.
As luck would have it, the weather was horrific when we were there, worse than my native Seattle. But the Dutch people are so delightful, eccentric and wonderful that I most surely will return - I will just know to ask if my room is "down under".
