“Educational and Interesting--worth a visit”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 4, 2013

This was included in our iAmsterdam card, and we thoroughly enjoyed the visit. Try to catch the printing press demonstration if you can. Rembrandt is famous for etchings, and even had his own press in a special room in the house, which they've recreated. During the demonstration, they explain and show the entire method, culminating with pressing an etching with a recreated copper plate. Be sure to visit the museum on the top floor with a diverse collection of original etchings.

“A little piece of art history”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 3, 2013

You walk into the entrance and boom you are in the house that Rembrandt once inhabited. There were many wonderful paintings that had a description as well provided by the audio device one is given at the beginning of the tour. I rather enjoyed the visceral experience of seeing and walking through the house. There was so much to learn by going on this tour and how it affected life in Amsterdam.

“Not just any museum, but his actual house!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 2, 2013

Of all the museums in Amsterdam, and there are quite a few, this is my favourite!
Yes, it is small, that is the way the traditional houses are in Amsterdam, so a couple of years ago it was decided to include the house next door as well. You enter Rembrandt's house, though the basement and climb up the stairs to the ground floor level. Rembrandt was not just a painter, to make his living he also was an art dealer. The front room functioned as a gallery and were he did business. In the attic are two spaces, his studio and a display of his collection (the type of things, which he collected, such as Japanese swords, Chinese ceramics, shells etc.). You can smell the paint, but the artist has just stepped out for a beer in the neighborhood pub......
If you are planning on visiting 4 museums while you are visiting Holland, it may be worth your while to purchase a museum card for about 49 Euro. With this card you can bypass the long line ups in some of the museums. It is well worth it!
