The restaurant overlooks the Amstel, across from the Hermitage. It's an old-fashioned looking place, but the flavors are up to date. The amuse bouche was steak tartar with a fried breaded egg yolk done to absolute perfection. The sardines were outstanding: perfectly prepared and with a cucumber chutney that was the ideal accompaniment. We had delicious lamb and sole mail courses, with interesting vegetables.
Our only complaint was about dessert: we ordered apple pie and while it was nicely done, it had been reheated in a microwave, making the crust soggy. (I've experienced this in several great restaurants lately; I'm going to stop ordering pie, I think.) The fresh ice cream was quite nice, however.
Interestlingly, although all the others around us were served after-dessert cookies, we were not! Perhaps they had the prix fixe dinner?
Overall a nice evening.
