After reading one of the previous reviews I was a little concerned!! Upon arrival we were greeted by a very friendly young lady who took us to our room. The room was enormous and had a beautiful view of the canal. The room was nicely furnished and had air-con. It had 3 enormous windows with wonderful drapes and voiles! The bathroom had both bath and shower. Breakfast next day was good - Bread, ham, cheese, egg, yoghurst, fresh orange and tea or coffee all served by Paul (the owner) who also was very helpful and friendly. We stayed for 4 nights at the hotel in Room 117 and must say it is excellent value for money for it's central position. Our flight wasn.t until 9 in the evening and we were able to leave our luggage while we had a final day in the city. The hotel has only 5 rooms and is a wonderful find thanks to the Telegraph review which I saw earlier this year.

I found this hotel on the internet and surpassed my expectations. It's a friendly hotel... Small with spacious rooms, peaceful and central. You're near of everything. It's located near a police station. For a mid range hotel, it was very confortable. Surely i'll be back in my next visit to Amsterdam...

I can understand the mixed reviews of the Hotel Orlando. We enjoyed our stay in Amsterdam, but it wasn't necessarily because of the hotel. Hotel Orlando is nice, more like a B&B, but we met friendlier staff at other B&Bs. This is not to say that Paul is not friendly. He is just not as warm, as some American tourists might expect an owner to be. Nevertheless, we enjoyed room 115. it was spacious (enough, by European standards), and the bathroom was fine (and clean). Do note that because this is a first floor room, it is at street level and can be a little noisy. Bring earplugs and you'll be fine.

We did not have breakfast any of the three days we were there. If you can wait until closer to lunchtime, check out The Pancake House...it is walking distance away. Also, we arrived in Amsterdam very early in the morning and unfortunately our room was not ready. He knew the time we were arriving, but that was okay - it helped us with the jet lag to stay awake. Another tip - if you have heavy luggage request room 115 - that way you won't have to lug your bags up the narrow stairs. Enjoy Amsterdam!

*p.s...sorry for the bad pics, these photos do not do the room justice.

This not a hotel, but basically a bed and breakfast. The room was huge and very clean. The bathroom was average size, but the towels were pretty thin. While the room technically has air conditioning it really was useless, but the fan made up for it. Breakfast consisted of some bread, cheese, ham and a hard boiled egg - pretty standard Dutch fare. The owner (Paul) could not be more accomodating. The location is very quiet.

My friends and I stayed in 2 rooms in Hotel Orlando last weekend and loved it. Our rooms were located at the back of the hotel, one in the basement and one on the ground floor. We heard no noise at night and slept soundly. I am not sure about the rooms on the upper floors, the stairs up to them looked very steep but this is common in Amsterdam. The rooms and bathrooms were comfortable, spacious and clean. There is no reception in the hotel, you are given a key and come and go as you please. During our 3 days we dealt with a young woman and man who were both very helpful and accomodating. They gave us maps and marked out all the places we wished to visit, recommended restaurants to us, and it was no problem storing our bags as we had an evening flight home. They even put a 3rd bed in one of the rooms for us at a very small extra cost.

The breakfast consisted of fresh orange juice, coffee/tea, warm rolls & brown bread, cheese, ham, egg and yogurt. We found it very good.

I feel the best thing about the hotel is its location. It is a lovely house situated facing a canal on a quiet safe street (police station few doors up). At the top of the street there are plenty of shops, bars and restuarants. It is 3 streets away from rembrantplein which has great nightlife, a 10 min walk from waterlooplein market, albert cruypt market and the flower market, and very accessible to the city centre. I feel the hotel and location really made our trip - I had previously stayed in hotels near damrak and central station - but much preferred this location!!! It was very peaceful and relaxing yet easy walking distance to the city centre.

One thing to be careful of it that some taxi drivers are not sure of the location as it is a very small hotel, it is handy to have it marked on a map for them!!!

I think the Hotel Orlando is great value and would highly recommend it. My friends and I are already planning our next trip back =0)
