“Excellent Staff, Location, and Price”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 26, 2007

We booked this hotel for one night while we were on a 24 hour layover at Schipol on our way to South Africa for our honeymoon. The manager Paul could not have been more accommodating to our needs!

We had earlier arranged with Paul that we would have an early arrival due to our inbound flight from the States. We arrived at 9:00 am, and Paul brought us into the breakfast room and offered us something to eat with the other guests. This was such a nice touch considering that we would not be able to have breakfast the next morning due to our early flight. Since we were there so early, Paul very apologetically informed us that our room would not be ready until 11:00am. Quite honestly we were so impressed that it would be ready that early! We set off wandering the city for an hour and by the time we came back, the room was ready.

We paid for a smaller room, but were given one of their standard rooms. The room was HUGE by European standards. It consisted of a king bed (two twins pushed together), a couch, desk, dresser, and mini-bar. We could have held dance in the middle of the room it was so big. The bathroom was simple and clean, and the shower pressure was awesome. Don’t come here expecting a fancy bathroom, because you won’t get it; it is very utilitarian.

The hotel is set on an idyllic street right next to a police station so it is very safe. It is not a rowdy street or hotel so if you are coming to Amsterdam to party this may not be the hotel for you. If you are looking for something romantic this is perfect.

Overall this hotel was exactly what we were looking for on our one night stay in Amsterdam. For the price you can’t beat it!

I stayed at Hotel Orlando in March with three female friends.

The whole stay was coloured by the the extremely rude and frankly odd behaviour of the only staff member whom we had any particular contact with (I qualify this by saying we did meet one other female staff member who was polite and helpful). Paul (as I think he was called) made us feel like unwanted house guests, everything was too much trouble for him. Our rooms weren't cleaned while we were staying there, the mini bar was disgusting inside and half empty. We were given out of date yogurts for breakfast (which we only discovered after we had eaten them).

On the day we left Paul told us we had to check out ASAP as he had to clean the rooms (so it seems some cleaning is done). We had been under the impression check out time was 12.00 but apparently it was 11.00, Paul told us at 10.50 while we were having breakfast that we had to check out at 11.00, so naturally we were going to be running a little late. We finished breakfast and went to our rooms to get our stuff together. Paul then came and started banging on our doors telling us he needed the rooms and was quite aggressive, the whole situation was really uncomfortable.

When we came to settle the bill he said we were incompatible and "huffed and puffed" further. Having worked in a hotel previously myself I was quite shocked by his behaviour, he was thoroughly unprofessional, you don't have to like your customers or be compatible with them, you just have to to your job.

Maybe he was having a bad week, he spelt "unwashed" shall we say and his behaviour was quite erratic.

We had one of the bigger rooms and one of the smaller rooms and they were a generally both good sizes, although not very clean and the beds weren't particularly comfortable. The bathrooms were basic but fine.

On the basis of the service we received I can't recommend this hotel.

Splendid.
We were in Amsterdam for a wedding and stayed for a long weekend. We also had the absolutely vast Room 117 overlooking the Prinsengracht. It's super...spacious yet romantic. Nice big bathroom too. Comfy beds and stylish decor.
Mandy was warm and helpful and got us hairdryer, iron &c. Location excellent. The smallness is an absolutely huge plus. You feel special and as though you have really discovered somewhere.
Only very slight negative was that parts of the room including the intriguing TV/Bar box hadn't been dusted and were a little dirty.
...but that's not enough to detract from my 5. We would definitely stay here again...if there was space.
