Just returned from a 3 night stay at the Orlando, paying €100 per night for room 111. I really enjoyed my stay, with the hotel being right on the canal belt, it was really nice.
Finding the hotel is really easy, the Prinsengracht tram stop (tram 4) is a 2 minute walk away at the top of the street. Tram 4 goes to Centraal Station and takes between 5 and 15 minutes depending on the traffic.
On arrival, we were let into the hotel by Paul, who was very pleasant, and show out room. We arrived at 11ish in the morning, which was no problem, we were shown to our room and given a guided tour. The room was huge. Double bed, table and chairs, TV with BBC 1 and 2 (good for watching match of the day), free safe, large wardrobe space all really nice. The bed were comfy and the shower was quite large too with a constant supply of warn water no matter what the time.
The room had a patio door that opened out into a small courtyard, like a small back garden, with a water feature and some kind of statue.
We were given keys to the front door and told to come and go as we please.
The hotel its self only has 5 rooms, so it was quiet and the other guests were pretty friendly.
On the last day we checked out at 10ish, leaving our stuff in the breakfast room so we could make the most of the rest of the day. Everything about the Orlando was straight forward and made really easy for us.
Directly opposite our room was the breakfast room. Continental breakfast is included with the cost. Plenty of tea, coffee, fruit juices, breds and cheese and meats on offer here.
There was also a free computer with Internet access and an info section where you can get maps and stuff.
The breakfast room is always open so you can make your self a drink when you get in at night.
Other info
- Nearest Coffee Shop is Barneys Lounge, and its a good one.
- You are basically a 5 minute walk away from Rembrandtplein where there are a number of bars, restaurants and shops. Cocos Outback is the place to watch the football, plus they do unlimited ribs for €20.
- There is a police station about 5 houses down the street from the Orlando so really it’s in a safe area
- Book things in advance, take advantage of the fast track systems in place and don’t waste your time queuing with the other peasants (Anne Franks, The Dungeons etc)
- Get your all day tram passes from the white building opposite to Centraal Station
When I return to Amsterdam, I will defiantly be contacting the Orlando as I would defiantly stop here again
