“Good location - some bitter taste”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 6, 2013

One of my customers booked me into The Manor Hotel in Amsterdam. While this is overall a quite good hotel I think some things could be improved. I had room 334.

What I liked
+ Good location, next to a tram station, so everything is easy reachable
+ Bikes for rent
+ Large rooms with nice style
+ Nice bathrooms with tub and separate shower
+ Internet is free

What I did not like
- Only a handful of parking spots and they charge 17.50 EUR per night (!)
- Breakfast is very mediocre (if not to say of shady quality) and they charge 17 EUR
- For a 4 star hotel some things don't add up - from the empty shower gel system in the shower, over the broken toilet paper handle to the not working desk light. There seems to be in total a problem with maintenance here
- Only shower gel and shampoo on your first day, get lost for every other day
- They request that you leave the car key at the front desk. Why no valet parking if you want to keep the car? This feels like they wanted to show luxury but failed
- I was handed down three times at check-in (obviously I was not important enough for them) and when I was asked for the brand of my car (Seat Exeo Company Car) the guy look at me and said "No Maybach yet?"
- Slow service at dinner

Overall I would say: If you need a hotel that can be reachable by public transport in Amsterdam this is a good hotel. If you come by car it probably makes sense to stay somewhere else.

My husband and I booked for 3 nights at the Manor Hotel for our 40th wedding anniversary. We let the hotel know that it was a special trip when we booked and on our arrival could not have been more warmly welcomed by Elvira and Angela at reception. They told us we had been given a room upgrade and complementary drinks on the terrace. We were allowed to get our room early and our luggage was stored for us for the short time until it was ready. Our room was a good size and spotlessly clean. The only thing we would recommend is some kind of net curtain to give privacy from the apartments opposite but apart from that the room was perfect. All the staff that we had any dealings with were kind, friendly and helpful and we would recommend it highly. We didn't have any of our meals in the hotel and so can'y give .any opinion on that

Room Tip: The hotel staff were so helpful that I think it's a good idea to communicate with them to ask i...

This hotel was previously a hospital but recently modernised to the highest standards as far as the rooms are concerned and a good size. The staff are friendly and helpful. The décor in the corridors is rather bright and red. The hotel has an Italian restaurant that serves breakfast. We had room only and tried the breakfast once. Nearby there are several cafes and bars which offer much better value. There is also a supermarket opposite and you can use the little fridge in the room for storing your own milk and drinks. The location is about 10minutes from the station by tram but the No 9 tram runs right pass the door and gets you right into the centre. Take the 3 or 7 for the Rijks and Van Gogh museums. The Artis zoo is a real find a zoo in a garden.

Room Tip: Try for a room overlooking the garden area

We arrived early Saturday 27th. Having Been to Amsterdam several times me and my partner happily made our way to Central station, however we got a taxi from there to the hotel, it cost 24 euros, but we soon learnt that the number 9 tram takes you to and from the hotel to the centre. It was 7.50 euros for 24hours.

Hotel is around 15-20 mins from the centre but you see some lovely sights on the way. The hotel was very modern, clean and comfortable. The decor is very....interesting? Not necessarily to everyone's taste , but the bedrooms are very tasteful. The bathroom was more of a wet room but very modern, it would have been nice to have more complimentary toiletries available but thats just me. As a female, I was pleased to see a hair dryer in the bathroom, and it was fairly good, not your usual hotel hairdryer. Beds were comfy and there were 2 English tv channels, bbc1 and bbc2.

We did eat at the hotel restaurant which offers Italian food, as we thought we would treat ourselves (34 euros for 3 courses) however we were quite disappointed, the menu did not offer great choice and the food was not that great.

There are some fantastic restaurants in the area, we ate at a few but 'Boom' was by far the best. It is a small French restaurant a few minutes from the hotel, quite expensive but fantastic food.

We really enjoyed outstay and had fun exploring the local area. The staff were very helpful and polite and I honestly cannot moan much about our stay. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone and everyone!

My parents, brother and I came back from Amsterdam around 10 days ago. We stayed at The Manor Hotel for 5 nights and it was perfect.
First, the staff were friendly and helpful. The room was very modern and clean with free Wifi (the receptionists will help you manage it for the first time) . It had adjustable lighting, electric sockets wherever you need them (personally I prefer to have one right next to my bed which was available in the room). The bathroom was spacious enough and also very clean. Two different lightings (one that is very good for makeup application) and a magnifying mirror. The best things about the bathroom were the soap and the shampoo. They were by the brand Rituals and they smelled delightful (a unisex smell nothing too girly and not masculine either). The breakfast was great. For those like me who don't like salty food for breakfast, you can enjoy some chocolate croissants, mini muffins and donuts in addition to a delicious berry yogurt.
Now let's talk about the location shall we? The hotel is literally 1 minute away from the tram (number 9) stop which takes you to the very center of the city and continues to the Amsterdam Central Station. The journey from the hotel to Rembrandtplein takes 15 minutes maximum. Therefore you can shop as much as you want without worrying about holding the bags for the rest of the day. Take the tram, put those babies in your room and continue your day bag-free. If you're a nature lover, the Oosterpark is a few steps away from the hotel. The Manor is also surrounded by many shops, drugstores, restaurants and supermarkets all within a 5 to 15 minute walk.
I highly recommend this hotel for an easy and pleasant stay in Amsterdam.

Plenty to do in the area, we used the no 9 tram which was every 10 mins to get to the centre. Check out the market on Saturday, this was a real market with food and clothing. If you happen to be visiting the last Sunday of the month make sure you visit the 'natural market'. I would definitely stay here again.

Stumbled upon this gem of a hotel this time to Amsterdam and was delighted with the choice. Modern, well appointed rooms with amazing staff to look after you and decently located, the Manor is a great choice for visitors to Amsterdam who want to be close to the action and yet need a peaceful, quiet neighbourhood to unwind at the end of the day.
Special recommendation for the all of the personnel at the concierge desk. Top class...

Room Tip: 4 rooms in the entire hotel have balconies. Try and get one of these.
