“A comfortable rest stop”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 6, 2013

My 8 year old son and I stayed here for one night on a recent trip to Europe, on route from Aarhus to Rotterdam.

The hotel is right near Amsterdam Central Hotel. So an easy walk with luggage to and from the train station. It took a few minutes for someone to pay attention to us at Reception but then we were greeted with warm cookies (we were starving so this was great) and soon shown to our room.

The room was terrific. Very big, well appointed and comfy. My son loved the iMac, which doubled as a TV and the free wi-fi. I loved the location: extremely quiet.

Amsterdam is a busy, busy city, so we appreciated the haven that this hotel provided.

There is a Starbucks in the foyer, which I enjoyed. And check out is late; 12 noon.

The hotel was quite full, especially with American and Australian tourists (all enjoying the Hilton quality, I assume).

This hotel was a good stopover for us and I would highly recommend it if you'd like a break from the more exotic, boutique European hotels.

We stayed here last year (July 2012) I believe the hotel was relatively new then. We were checked in very fast and got up to the room which had great views of Amsterdam and the River. The rooms was immaculately presented and the linen on the beds were fresh. Beds were very comfortable and the bathroom was extremely clean and spacious. Loved that the room had an Apple computer with complimentary WiFi and Speakers that we disconnected from the TV and used for our iPod. Was an added bonus to have a free mini bar everyday and we sure did make use of that. Staff in the hotel were great and always ready to help. Only complaint I would have is that one morning I wanted a sleep in and housekeeping kept knocking on the door and even entered at one stage even after i had a do not disturb sign on the door. Other than that I would highly recommend this hotel. Must go have a drink upstairs on the rooftop and take in the view. Breakfast in the morning was good too. A good variety of food and beverages every morning.. oh and the COOKIE was pretty cool on arrival too.

Upon exiting the train station, turn left, and the hotel is a short 10-minute walk (with heavy roll-a-boards; less time with no luggage.) You can enter the hotel by walking through the Starbucks for a shortcut.

The location is also perfect for getting to the airport - a short walk back to the train station and 4.40 Euros per person ticket cost. Ask when buying the ticket and the agent will tell you which platform. It's usually Platform 14A or 15A.

Breakfast in the restaurant is excellent. However, if you have any status with Hilton, the hotel will try to deny you access to the restaurant for breakfast and make you take it in the new Exec Lounge. Try to book a rate with breakfast to avoid any hassles. The breakfast in the Exec Lounge is pathetic at best.

The Exec Lounge on the main floor next to the bar offers beer and wine and a few puff pastry-type nibbles in the evening - not very inspiring. We stayed only night and were invited to the Manager's Welcome Back reception that offered better hors d'oeuvres. Apparently the GM holds this reception twice a month.

The Front Desk is good about holding luggage. We checked in around 10:00 a.m. and left our luggage for the day. Similarly, we checked out around 10:00 a.m. and left our luggage until we were ready to leave for the airport.

Thank you for you detailed feedback. This is highly appreciated. You are an Hhonors member which means you have a few advantages in our hotel. One of them is the executive lounge which is brand new. It is an extra to make you feel welcome as a guest. The entire day you are welcome to have drinks, sweets and snacks in the evening. I am really sorry that this did not exceed your expectations. I hope to welcome you back and you will experience the high service and quality food again.

It is not a new hotel although new with the DT Hilton brand. Love the cookies in this chain and here was not exception. Corteous personnel and comfortables rooms. Great location and wonderful option for Amsterdam. Conveniently located meters away from Central Rail Station, so the airport is only 30 to 45 minutes away.

My wife and I plus another couple were on a 2 1/2 week vacation (St. Petersburg, a cruise on the Rhine and a tour of switzerland). We used this hotel to stay in after the visit to St. Petersburg and just before the start of the river cruise to Basel, Switzerland. We all are not seasoned travelers and I was a bit concerned that our late arrival into Amsterdam airport and having never used the train system before would present some problems for us. I contacted the Doubletree Hilton while in St. Petersburg and they were quite helpful in getting a transfer to meet us at the airport. This worked for us without a hitch.
Upon arrival to the hotel, we all were quite pleased with our rooms and the close proximity to old town as well as the river cruise boat. The next morning we checked out of our rooms, took our luggage to the boat and then went on a tour of Amsterdam. This could not have worked out better.
We did not have much of a chance to sample all that the hotel had to offer, but we did find that it met all of our needs as a transitional hotel between our vacation experiences. When we come back to explore Amsterdam a bit closer, we will definitely stay at this hotel based on the service we received during this quick visit.

This hotel is an easy walk with luggage from the train station in Central Amsterdam. We took the quick train ride from the airport to the city center and were so happy to see that the hotel was nearby. The facilities were nice, staff very pleasant and efficient. Franny contacted me before our trip with the staffs top ideas for things to do in the area. They arranged a wine and cheese tasting for us on the day we arrived. It was a great way to wind down after the flight. One note....there were no hairdryers in the rooms. In the US we have come to expect them....so I was glad that I had packed my own.

Thank you very much for your feedback. This is always welcome. Great to hear you you had a good stay and tasted cheese and wine. The cheese is typically Dutch, so that is a nice thing to do and I am happy to hear Franny could arrange this for you. The hairdryer is in the cupboard in a bag. You are always free to call our care line if you need aminities which you are not able te find. Looking foward to welcome you back in the future.

We booked the hotel in Jan 2013 to stay in June 2013 as part of our wedding anniversary and my 30th birthday. We took up an offer of a discounted rate which was to be paid upfront to secure the rate and offered no refunds or cancellations, we gladly accepted and booked it upon recommendation from a friend.

We booked in with no problems and were asked if we wished to upgrade. Since it had been paid for, we agreed for the sake of 50 euros for two nights. First night was great, room was excellent clean, tidy, modern and spacious with great views.

Breakfast was average as there is a limited choice so we gave it a miss the second morning.

During our second night we arrived back to the hotel for a night cap in the sky lounge which is advertised as being open to 3am saturday night/sunday evening. we had visited friday night briefly and had looked forward to it on the saturday however we arrived at 1.30am to find it was closed. We went back to reception to ask where we could a bottle of water and the guy at reception was very rude and didnt really care. He suggested we drink from the taps as it was safe to do so. Not the type of service we expected from hilton. we had asked if the executive lounge would be open for some bottled water but he told us it was closed. (a different story from when we checked in and were asked about the upgrade.)

We enjoyed our stay bar the small mishaps. We then proceeded to check out and waited in a queue as the clerks worked in pairs and swapped clients etc. The manager seemed to be on overload with various problems when we were finally greeted with a rather large bill. We could not understand as we didn't order anything to the room and paid up front for everything. Apparently we had not paid for the room. We explained the situation and showed the confirmation email of payment, explained the reason we chose that rate and the lack of bill through the door on checkout day (stated in the hotel literature.) we were not advised of anything like that at check in or anytime during our stay but apparently their system said it was not paid so they were 99% sure it hadnt been paid. The manager agreed that they did infact do a promotion as I had explained and looked at the confirmation email but we had no proof from our credit card with us.

False advertising then?

you could imagine the shock having to pay 550 euros thinking you had paid it 6 months ago so be careful you have proof of purchase/booking as we didn't.

lovely hotel but not well managed and left a sour taste for us. If you just need a base to explore amsterdam I'm sure there is better value but if you spend anytime in the hotel, this was lovely.
