“Great hotel in an excellent location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 20, 2010

My partner and I stayed at the NH City Centre for 3 nights, and we were very pleased with the hotel overall. We had a standard room which was very comfortable and reasonably spacious - I was expecting it to be much smaller, but we had plenty of space. The room was minimally but nicely decorated in brown/beige, and had a nice big window which we could open - the window had a blackout blind and thick curtains, and despite our window facing down onto the busy Spui area the room was nice and quiet with the window closed. We had a double room which had 2 single beds pushed together instead of a double bed, however the beds were extremely comfortable. The TV in the room had a decent selection of channels. Bathroom was small but perfectly adequate, with a good shower, hairdryer and plenty of towels. The room included a kettle, fridge and safe - the fridge is very handy if you want to pick up food and drinks from the supermarket. The hotel offers smoking rooms. Staff were friendly and helpful. The location cannot be beaten - just up from Spui, 10 minute walk to Dam Square and 10 minutes to Leidseplein - there is also a tram stop very close to the hotel. Only drawback I can think of is that there is no air con or fans in the room - the rooms get very warm in the sun and a means to cool the room down would be ideal (I believe they have fans available from the front desk, but these should be provided in each room). Overall the NH City Centre is a pleasant hotel and we would definitely consider staying here again on our next trip to Amsterdam. Make sure to check the rates on different booking sites - we got an excellent rate through Agoda.

This is an excellent choice of hotel for location, comfort and friendly staff. We were allocated a room on first floor overlooking canal great view, room size was excellent, as were shower and toilet. This hotel is so easy to return to if you have had shopping trip and need to off load your buys. Staff were very friendly and helpful in anything we asked. As this is our 5th time in Amsterdam I must say this is the best hotel we have stayed at yet and hopefully we will be using it again.

We stayed here for three nights. The hotel was excellent, the rooms were very clean and tidy and the restaraunt was lovely too and it served a really good buffett breakfast. The hotel itself is central so not far to walk to any of the major attractions. I thought this hotel was good value.

If you're on a budget this is decent hotel to stay at. I booked the hotel on orbitz and they didn't have the reservation in their system but easily entered in all my information. It wasn't a problem and they were really nice and efficient. The staff were great the entire time.

A few complaints though: Its been really hot in Amsterdam this summer and on their website they say that they have air conditioning. They do NOT have a AC control in the rooms so its really warm.

The rooms are old and tired but clean. The TV was in an awkward place and I had to move the chair at the desk in order to actually see it from the bed. The bathroom shower took a while to drain too. ugh.

They say they offer free internet in the lobby, but its in 30 min increments so if you have work to do, this can get frustrating. I think its 25 euros per night, which is ridiculously pricey.

If you're looking for a no-frills place in a good location this is definitely a good option but I'll probably try a different hotel next time.

We stayed here on a romantic break. The hotel was excellent, the rooms were very clean and tidy and the restaraunt was lovely too and it served a really good buffett breakfast. The hotel itself is central so not far to walk to any of the major attractions. I thought this hotel was good value and if we were to visit Amsterdam again, then we would stay here.

this is a very nice hotel at a very central location in Amsterdam. Modern rooms and bathrooms, friendly staff and surprisingly quiet despite the location. Will go there again!

Just returned from a four night trip to Amsterdam, staying in the NH City Centre hotel. The reception staff were great and helpful and the room was fantastic. Whilst we were on the road side (as oppossed to the canal side) it was little noisy in the morning and you can't leave your window open during the night but that was the only thing wrong (and this isn't the hotel's fault at all, it is a city centre after all). The location was great and you can walk to everything from the hotel. I would highly recommend this hotel to anybody and would happily stay here again when I visit Amsterdam again.
