“Excellent location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 3, 2014

We stayed for 8 nights in a comfortable and clean room "with a view" (towards the Singel-canal). We booked (several months ago) and paid for a superior room, but in fact the room appeared to be a standard room ("with a view") less than 20 m2 and lacking a refrigerator ("minbar"). Some days before we arrived, we informed the hotel that we will arrive later in the evening (due to the flight), but when we complained about the room, we were told that all superior rooms were already occupied when we checked in. This explanation is a little bit odd because we booked the room months before we arrived, and also informed the hotel of our late arrival.

However; the hotel is a good one. I can recommend it.

Stayed here for 2 nights may 26th 2014. Great location. Rooms quite small but adequate. However workmen in hotel started banging and drilling 7.30am!!! We complained but got nowhere ! reception just said the work they are doing doesn't cause banging !!! Well it did and woke us up.

The hotel is in a wonderful location with good bars, restaurants and shops close by. It is on the edge of the canal area, great for just walking and admiring this lovely city. The room was acceptable, beds comfortable, and all you need and expect from a tourist hotel. However, reception and lounge were strangely bleak and unwelcoming. The window in our room was fixed and fitted with wired safety glass, overlooking a dingy central well. They make a point of it being an 'American' hotel, but the air-conditioning wasn't working and the room was too hot and stuffy. Staff were unconcerned when we complained. There are plenty of small cafes around for a decent, reasonably-priced breakfast and a terrific restaurant opposite (Haesje Claes) which was a daily highlight to our holiday.

This hotel was pricey but it was clean, modern, and in a great location for exploring pretty much all of the city. Very central and an easy walk everywhere. Parking is available on the block but it is VERY expensive (68euro per night) so don't bring a car if you can avoid it. There are some satellite lots for 38euro per night but they are a 10-15 minute walk away.

This hotel is way past it's prime. Shabby and uninviting. The lobby is dim and very unfriendly. The furniture is circa 1950's and the staff is not well informed. The rooms are spartan, again with aging furniture. The halls are painted dark brown; this coupled with 12 watt CFL lighting reminds me of a mausoleum.

My advice: Pay a little more and get a lot more. It was rated 3 stars, but that was way to generous.

they tried to renove the hotel with a new painting but everything seems very old and not very clean, we even had a room with no window, an old floor with smoking whole on the floor and a column in the middle of our very small room...with an old mattress. It was the worst night we spent but hopefully, we have been able to change our room to the corner of the elevator and we had a large window and a coffee machine with a cleaner and bigger room the day after. Unfortunately, I ve forgotten my neckless and I didn t succeed to take it back, nobody found it although my several calls.
