“Great Location BUT noisy workmen”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 1, 2014

Stayed here for 2 nights may 26th 2014. Great location. Rooms quite small but adequate. However workmen in hotel started banging and drilling 7.30am!!! We complained but got nowhere ! reception just said the work they are doing doesn't cause banging !!! Well it did and woke us up.

The hotel is in a wonderful location with good bars, restaurants and shops close by. It is on the edge of the canal area, great for just walking and admiring this lovely city. The room was acceptable, beds comfortable, and all you need and expect from a tourist hotel. However, reception and lounge were strangely bleak and unwelcoming. The window in our room was fixed and fitted with wired safety glass, overlooking a dingy central well. They make a point of it being an 'American' hotel, but the air-conditioning wasn't working and the room was too hot and stuffy. Staff were unconcerned when we complained. There are plenty of small cafes around for a decent, reasonably-priced breakfast and a terrific restaurant opposite (Haesje Claes) which was a daily highlight to our holiday.

This hotel was pricey but it was clean, modern, and in a great location for exploring pretty much all of the city. Very central and an easy walk everywhere. Parking is available on the block but it is VERY expensive (68euro per night) so don't bring a car if you can avoid it. There are some satellite lots for 38euro per night but they are a 10-15 minute walk away.

This hotel is way past it's prime. Shabby and uninviting. The lobby is dim and very unfriendly. The furniture is circa 1950's and the staff is not well informed. The rooms are spartan, again with aging furniture. The halls are painted dark brown; this coupled with 12 watt CFL lighting reminds me of a mausoleum.

My advice: Pay a little more and get a lot more. It was rated 3 stars, but that was way to generous.

they tried to renove the hotel with a new painting but everything seems very old and not very clean, we even had a room with no window, an old floor with smoking whole on the floor and a column in the middle of our very small room...with an old mattress. It was the worst night we spent but hopefully, we have been able to change our room to the corner of the elevator and we had a large window and a coffee machine with a cleaner and bigger room the day after. Unfortunately, I ve forgotten my neckless and I didn t succeed to take it back, nobody found it although my several calls.

This hotel was lovely, staff really friendly and spoke great English and even printed our airline tickets out for us :)

We were upgraded to a superior room which was huge...didn't even know my partner was in bed with me, the bed was that big ha ha my friends however also were told they were upgraded but there room was still tiny and had 2 single beds.
Rooms were very clean though and hotel was very quiet.

Didn't have breakfast or eat here but went in the bar...lovely bar and good choice of drinks and price but never anyone in but us. Also it wasn't open earlier in day and also the bar man disapeared a lot so we were waiting.

Would definatley stay here again. Great location right next to Rembrandt square and close to everything else.

NH City Center Amsterdam

Likes: Location, 5 minute walk to Dam Square, Tram station 1 minute away, lots of restaurants and pubs nearby. Lady bartender from the Philippines, friendly indonesian waiters

Dislikes: late check in 3PM, Bland breakfast, smallish rooms, slow internet. Front Desk staff were almost frowning, never giving any smiles at all- it seemed that guests were a hindrance. I asked what can we do here while waiting for the 3PM check in, she points to a corner with maps and travel guides with a cursory "Please help yourself". Expensive breakfast (€20), with little selection at least the indonesian staff were very very friendly.

Good thing the room was acceptable with a good view of rooftops (at least it wasnt a brick wall view). Bed was comfortable and we had no problems with the room

Room Tip: Tip: take high floor rooms, those nearer to ground level can be a bit noisy at night with the bar c...
