“Excellent heritage displays”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 7, 2012

The replica of the Dutch East-Indianman sailing ship was clearly a winner with most visitors. And, it is excellent to walk through and see the crammed living quarters.
In the museum part, I really enjoyed seeing the historic globes (celestial and terrestrial) and an excellent collection of old shipping paintings.

“Brilliant - spent a whole day there”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 6, 2012

Wonderful new museum making great use of a challenging 18th century naval warehouse in the eastern docklands. One wing is primarily for adults, and another primarily for families. The galleries are very varied in approach, so constantly stimulating. All are fascinating, and some stunningly beautiful, for example the displays of old model yachts, and of astronomical instruments. They make very imaginative use of new technology, and there are lovely surprises round every corner.

As well as the family galleries, there's a full size replica 18th Century East Indiaman (a square rigged ship) moored in the docks outside, just begging to be explored.

Too many other wonders to include in a review - go and find them for yourselves.

“Fun for kids and adults alike”

An extensive display through the history of maritime. Interesting "rowing trip" out to sea (virtual) and virtual helicopter ride. Fairly priced and well worth a visit

“Interactive and worth the money!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 4, 2012

I am a little bit surprised, that the Maritime Museum is not as well-known as other museums in Amsterdam.
Well, it costs 15€, but I found it worth the money! They have a copy of an old sailing ship lying at their dockand you can actually walk its 3 floors!
The museum is very interesting (if you're into maritime stuff), with lots of history but also modern shipping and many things are interactive. So you can explore all exhibits by yourself via screens and so on.
It's also quite nice for little visitors, especially the whale section is very child-friendly.

By the way, if you get a Canal Bus leaflet in their office at the Central Station, you'll find, along with other discounts, a 20% discount voucher for the Maritime Museum in it!
