5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 16, 2013 via mobile

I used points to arrange a weekend stay for my wife and our niece and partner. As an ambassador got the 2 rooms upgraded to river view rooms, arrived late after a day in Antwerp and snowy conditions in holland. Quick check in and down for drinks and food. Next day off to explore Amsterdam with map sorry maps (private joke). Back in hotel and down to pool and sauna to relax before heading off to Dutch restaurant as recommended by staff. Great meal. Overall the hotel is one of the best that we have ever stayed in. All staff we had any contact with were very helpful and very pleasant, I would like to thank the hotel for making this special weekend as enjoyable as it was and hope to return soon to experience this great hotel soon

Staff was friendly. Rooms were beautiful. Beds were comfy but I wish there were more pillows. Decor was classy. Room service was okay. The only thing I disliked was controlling the temperature if the water when taking a bath. Overall, it's clean and I would return.

Dear guest,

We very much appreciate the fact that you took time to put your comment on tripadvisor. Thank you very much for your nice compliments. Next time you decided to come to Amsterdam, please contact us through Amstel@ihg.com. We will make sure that additional pillows will be available in your room. Unfortunately we do not have rooms with other temperature control systems for your bath. Thank you again and we all are looking forward to welcome you again.

We have been in this hotel for 2 nights.
The price is expensive, but it worthy.. The location is quite central and very quite.. We had a quiet room on the riverside; the view on the canal was very pleasant!.
We had a small suprise; nobody told us the parking service was paid but a night clerck (a black gentelman who was very helpfull) made a discount and we were all satisfied!
The breakfast was also very nice; in the breakfast saloon you feel yourself in a romantic boat..

Went for a long weekend, and it was a great location.
Concierges were a wealth of info before and after our arrival and showed us where the local old fashioned 'brown bars' were (not to be confused with the other type of bars!).
Great view from the room, fantastic bed and coffee machine.
I'm sure our room was used in the welcome to the Hotel video they show on one of the channels! Great minibar, but this must be the only Intercontinental without a Club Lounge...
The spa downstairs was lovely and after a swim, sitting on the terrace with a drink was wonderful!
Great stay and friendly staff. One of my favourites!

Staff were brilliant and really enjoyed every aspect of my visit
Restaurants and food is all are excellent. Very talented chef!
Friendly bar and bar staff
Rooms beautiful and just so comfortable
shame it's Intercon because it's nicer, cosier, smaller and more personal than your average intercontinental hotel?
It's like Londons Connaught Hotel
Go stay you won't be disappointed!!

Room Tip: Pay the extra to upgrade. It's worth it

5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 27, 2012

Spent Two nights (Christmas Eve and Christmas night) with my wife at the hotel. Never having been to Amsterdam and coming in from Asia, my wife repeatedly called and emailed the concierges in the weeks leading up to our trip for information on restaurant and museum recommendations and, more importantly, what would be open on these holidays. Everyone was responsive and helpful. Hotel stay was great. Bottom line, I would stay here on my next visit to Amsterdam.

Specifics on the hotel:
- Room was quite spacious and updated, especially given it is 150ish years old
- Hotel is located "across town" from most major tourist attractions. The area is quiet, on a beautiful canal and walking distance from a few major museums. Otherwise, hop on the above ground tram that stops a block from the hotel and buy a pass for however long you are staying. Public transportation is easy and convenient. I preferred to be away from the hordes of tourists after a long day of walking around the main parts of the city, and the reality is that the city is small so you are only minutes away from everything
- Breakfast buffet was excellent; lots of pastries, selection of eggs/meats, and good smoked fish
- Gym is tiny, but packed with equipment that allows you to get a complete workout. Gym is located next to a small indoor swimming pool and hot tub. In the three times I went down to use the facility there was no other guest around, probably because of the holidays and the small number of guest rooms
- Staff were all knowledgable and courteous; always willing to help

Room Tip: Ask for a canal facing room

Firstly, thanks so much to all of you who posted reviews, as this helped us reach the decison of where to stay. We have just returned from a 2 day stay there and it was truly amazing. The staff were unbelivably helpful and went out of their way at all times to assist us in very possible way. If you want service second to none, class, style and perfection then this is the place to stay BUT it comes at a price.
