“Traditional Beauty”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 13, 2011

This very upscale beautifully appointed hotel was perfect for me on the last leg of my African adventure. Boy did I need a comfortable bed and I got one. Wonderful bed...made it hard to leave the room! The hotel has a pool with lounge chairs and a spa. It was a great place to lounge about and rest my beaten body. The view from my room of the river was stunning. I can't imagine coming here and not getting a river view room. The staff are warm and helpful. I gave the concierge my goals and he mapped out a great walking plan. It's close to the theater but not much else but its a 15-30 minute walk to the canal boat and/or museums. I think it took me 15 minutes to get to the canal tours but it's right around the corner (2 min) from public transportation if you don't want to walk. I felt very safe walking everywhere I went. WiFi is available and works but it's slow. The only negative I experienced was that the taxi charged me extra just because he was picking me up at this hotel. I find that annoying.

Room Tip: Ask for a River View room. I can't imagine paying this much money and not getting that view!

I had heard wonderful things about this hotel and was looking forward to staying there but I have to confess to being disappointed. My room was very expensive - around the 400 euro mark - but really quite small and poorly equipped with an uninspiring view over the building opposite. It was rather strangely laid out with a tiny wardrobe immediately on the right as you entered the room then a shallow wooden step down into the room (which I tripped over twice and slid on many times).
The bed was comfortable but the desk not really large enough to work at effectively which was annoying when i had to spend a vast amount of time there working at it. No in-room tea or coffee making facilities meant 20 minutes spent waiting for a cup of overpriced tea. The rest of the room service food that I experienced was similarly very overpriced and not actually particularly nice. The full English breakfast was especially disappointing and tasted even worse than it looked (at 35 euros!). This seems to be a room service issue though, as I ate in both the beautiful conservatory overlooking the canal and also the bistro style restaurant downstairs and both were superb.
I found the ladies on reception to be very friendly and helpful but the gentlemen on the concierge desk to be rather surly and stern.
Overall quite a disappointment.

This is now one of my favorite Intercon hotels. It's a 79 room hotel in an absolutely stunning building right on one of the canals in a more quiet part of the city.

I was there for a short 2 day visit in transit on my way back home to Asia. Nothing at all disappointed me, everything was near perfect. I didn't eat there but I saw the restaurant which looked great and the menu looked fantastic and I heard some great comments but can't confirm them first hand.

The rooms are stunning, one of the best I've stayed in. Classic style and very modern at the same time. Quiet and comfortable with everything you could possibly want in a hotel room including an awesome coffee machine.! One thing I liked also (and it's the first time I've seen it) is that there i free slow (and it is slow) internet and if you want something faster you pay. I thought that was a great idea it you only want to surf a bit or read about Amsterdam etc.

The location is a bit out of the centre but it's only a short walk to all the places you probably want to go and it means it's a little quieter, which I liked. It's near the great tram system and you can even get a bicycle nearby if you want one that will get you around OK.

It's a very exclusive hotel with a fantastic atmosphere. Highly recommended if you want to spend that sort of money. You will be hard to find something more comfortable and "homely". Try it!

Room Tip: Try and get a room facing the river. Very nice view

Enjoyed a wonderful stay at the Amstel Hotel. This hotel is situated in a really gorgeous building, lot of original features and the interiour is a good match to the building. We stayed at the 1st floor and the rooms are very spaceous and the hight under the ceiling enhances the feeling of beeing a in a suite even though its a standard room. Great location in Amsterdam center with walking distance to a lot of the big must sees as teh Van Gogh and the Rijksmuseum. One minus is that the floor covering was stayned and would really need a make over.

For the 2nd time this year I enjoyed the high-tea at the most famous hotel in Amsterdam. Beautifull located on the Amstel River nearby the Carre theater.
The high tea is the perfect opportunity to relax and having a chat with friends or familiy.
The food for example : sandwiches - scones - foccia - wraps - all kind of sweet assortiment -
cake - chocolates and the warm side dishes as there were quiche - croquet - spring roll where all of excellent quality. Different types of tea, with a little explanation from which country or area. When you are staying in Amsterdam with you lover or just a friend is the place to keep in mind.

Beautiful property. Flawless, friendly, competent service. Great food options from La Rive, to the Brasserie, to room service. Would have given 5 stars, but the internet was not perfect. You can have free low speed internet, which is maddeningly slow, or you can pay 25 euros per day for high speed internet. Even paying for high speed, there were a few interruptions in service. Hotel was very quick to fix interruptions though. Also, this hotel is not as centrally located as some, but it's not a bad walk into city center, it's quite close to public transportation, and at least for me, it was kind of nice to be a bit removed from the clamor of downtown. So location was not a negative for me, but may be for others.
