Owner description: This museum (also called Our Lord in the Attic Chapel) is housed in a charming canal house with 17th-century period rooms and, as a surprise to many visitors, a clandestine church in the attic, which was used by the Roman Catholics who were not allowed to worship publicly after 1578.

“A House with many unexpected secrets”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 3, 2014

In the middle of the Red Light district you can find this litle nice museum. The audio guide is working well and tells you all the inns and outs you need to know during the tour. A lot of rooms are still original and this makes it very special.

“Interesting little gem”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 2, 2014

On the fringes of the red light district a 350 year old church in a house. This historic visit is partly about the house and partly the church. Well worth a visit and reasonably priced too!

“A unique building”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 28, 2014

This is a Roman Catholic church built in the attic of a merchant's house. When Roman Catholicism was outlawed in the Netherlands, several of these churches were built. As long as people were discreet, the authorities turned a blind eye. This is the only one that survives intact. A visit is fascinating for many reasons. You may visit the merchant's house, as well as the small adjoining apartment where the priest lodged. The church itself, in the top two storeys of the house, is surprisingly large, with a gallery and an organ loft. One of the most unique places I've visited.

“Amazing church”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 25, 2014 via mobile

I decided to visit Amstelkting Museum because it's sounds good to me to see things that people do or create in ancient times to express their faith. I'm not a religious person, but I loved the creativity of the merchant who built the church.

It isn't a must see place. But it's quite interesting. If you have time in Amsterdam you should visit.

“Would have never known...”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 23, 2014

This chapel is one of those places that you could walk past a million times and never know it was there. Very near the central station and red light district. I enjoyed the history and the ingenuity of this attraction. Its a place you would only want to visit one time but definitely worth it.
