“Hidden curiosity”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 2, 2014

Interesting building with audio guide that fascinates telling the tale of a Catholic church built in the attic of an old building and hidden from the outside and non-Catholics during many years.

“Very interesting museum”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 29, 2014

We enjoyed our visit although renovations continue. The history of the museum was very interesting. It will be excellent when the new building is complete.

“A hidden gem ... by design”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 27, 2014

Our Lord in the Attic is a 17th century merchant's house with a Catholic church hidden in its upper floors for secret worship in a period when Catholicism was suppressed in the Netherlands. We were captivated by the whole experience.

Those with mobility problems would struggle as navigating many steep sets of steps is essential to be able to see anything at all. It's worth exploring each nook and cranny by climbing every set of stairs that isn't roped off as the signage in the museum is not the clearest.

Construction work is continuing on a new visitor centre in the building next door which will be connected via a new underground tunnel. Once complete this will enhance the visitor experience significantly as all the paraphernalia of lockers, giftshops etc. can be moved out of the historic building.

It's worth watching the video (in the room at the very top of the museum) about the restoration project running since 2011 and the importance the city council places on this flagship project in reclaiming this area of the city.

“Interesting”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 25, 2014

We enjoyed this small museum. I though before going that it was just a chapel, but there is an entire house to see. It gives you an idea of what life might have been like in 17th century Amsterdam. The hidden church was amazing, and to hear how it was accomplished on the (free) audio guide was quite interesting. There are several steep staircases, so be prepared. Watch your kids because they could easily fall on them if left unattended.

“Unique and Interesting”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 23, 2014

It didn't look like a big place from the outside and as you enter, but there is quite a lot to see and learn about inside. It is amazing how the founder of this "secret" church was able to create a lovely working church in the inside of the houses. Beyond just the church itself, one can also get an insight into life in Amsterdam in that period of time.

A unique and interesting experience!
