Owner description: This museum (also called Our Lord in the Attic Chapel) is housed in a charming canal house with 17th-century period rooms and, as a surprise to many visitors, a clandestine church in the attic, which was used by the Roman Catholics who were not allowed to worship publicly after 1578.

“Worth a look”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 16, 2014

If you go to Amsterdam you must go here. Excellent Art gallery crowned by Rembrandt's Night watch, which you can't get near for people. As expected main place to sit down is the over priced cafe for which you have to queue

“Church in the attic”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 15, 2014

Imagined only an altar and a couple of seating benches. But the 3 upper floors of a perfectly normal canal house contained a whole church, that could accommodate 150 catholics going to church in secrecy. Very fascinating!

“Audio tour was not working well”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 14, 2014

Located in the red light district this old house has a hidden catholic church inside. The audio tour did not correspond with places and the english version kept cutting to Dutch. If you are on a museumkaart or a Iamsterdam card then it is worth popping in.

Well worth a visit - have never seen anything like this anywhere. Beautifully restored and very interesting commentary. Included with the Holland Pass.

“amazing”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 3, 2014

right in the middle of the red light area, this museum is well worth a visit. Three merchant buildings combined to create a chapel on the top three floors. the chapel is now restored and although building works continue you can also see the original merchants room as well.
audio tour is one of best I have seen and very informative of this buildings history and that of the catholic community
