Beautiful church, The view is the best. Interesting part of the city.
Not for people who can not climb stairs.

“Worth it for the view”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 17, 2014

I got to the Westerkerk right as the desk for the tower climb opened, so I was lucky enough to be able to go straight up with the first tour rather than booking my place on a later one. The price is a bit high for what you get (7-7.50E, from memory), but if, like me, you like to get at least one high panoramic view of the cities you visit, it's worth it, as this is the highest tower in central Amsterdam.

The tour was good, and the guide spoke great English - she gave us some interesting facts at each level, about the bells, and the construction of the tower, etc. The view, as I mentioned, was excellent, and made the climb + price worthwhile.

I should mention, however, that the ladders you climb are very steep and it can be a little hairy coming down, so be prepared for that if you're not the best with climbing. Wear good shoes!

P.S. A word of warning for my fellow ladies (from someone who almost did this, due to the weather) - do not wear a dress/skirt, or at least make sure you wear tights underneath it, as the ladders are rather steep! Unless you're the last one up, you might give the person behind you a bit of a show, haha!

“Beautiful”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 10, 2014

The church is beautiful & old, very nice tour is offered to climb to the top,it was an amazing climb, steep stairs & a bit challenging but well worth the effort, the price was 10 euros so it's also affordable, the tour guide was engaging & informative & took questions & explained in detail, the church still operates as a church so during services & weddings & funerals, the tours are closed, also there are tours of just the inside of the church so you do not have to climb to the top if it's not for you,the one thing I thought was nice is each tour they limit to 6,so it's a small group & you have no problem hearing the guide. I think it was well worth the money & highly recommend while your in town.

“Wicked 360 view of Amsterdam”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 3, 2014

For 7 euros you can climb the tour and get a full 360 view of the whole of Amsterdam. This is my fav place to take visitors as it only takes 30 minutes and people always love the perspective they get from the top.

Key is to nip in and book a time slot at the beginning of the day and then go and explore the Jordaan or visit the Anne Frank museum returning for your time slot.

“ok but expensive”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 1, 2014

It is free to visit the church which is ok but quite small. we paid the 7.5 euros each to climb the tower. It is a difficult climb up steep steps and several wooden ladders. The young lady who was our guide informative and the views from the top(well actually 1/2 way up) were very good. The tour lasted about 20mins. Worth the climb for the view but not worth the money.
