“Go, go, go!”

Be prepared for learning a lot and tasting excellent cheese and wine. People normally don't know about this program, but certainly is an Amsterdam must-see. The teacher is very kind too.

“If You Like Cheese........”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 1, 2013

And I certainly do - this is an ideal way to spend an hour or so.

The shop itself is quite small but you go downstairs to the tasting room and it is a whole new world. We tasted 6 cheeses, each matched to either white wine, red wine or port and all of them were fantastic - I will never look at Gouda in the same way again!

The girl who talked us through each cheese was very knowledgable and gave a good presentation on the history of the company as well as the attributes of each cheese/wine combination. She described one as a party in your mouth and I can only say she was right!

Highly recommended......

“Book in advance - it fills up fast for a reason!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 31, 2012

My husband and I really enjoyed this cheese tasting. The wine was well-matched to each cheese and the instructor did a wonderful job guiding us through the 6 cheeses, including 4 Goudas aged from 5 months to 3 years and 2 different goats cheeses. The tasting is held in a private room with 10 small tables; each table has 6 wedges of cheese and a cutting board (you serve yourself as much you like). If you sign-up for the 20 euro "special" package (versus the 15 euro package) you receive a 300g wedge of the 1-year Reypenaer Gouda which is normally sold for 11 euros. It is handed to you when you sign-in for the course (so if you're going with your spouse, you needn't both sign-up for the special package if you only want one wedge of cheese). The classes fill up fast but it's easy to book online in advance. If you're not interested in a guided tasting, the shop has many samples available for free. Either way, I recommend stopping by this place. The cheese is fabulous!

“Great for cheese”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 30, 2012

Having recently listened to the Ted talk on increasing enjoyment of a product by learning more about it, I was very excited about learning a little more about dutch cheese. It was interesting to learn about the process of how they age the cheese and to try the cheeses as we learned more about it. The wine was well matched and overall we had a good time. The time flow by and it hardly felt like an hour.

Now for the practical advice, if you're just interested in trying a few bits of cheese and not learning more, they have them available for free. We picked the special in which you get a bit of extra cheese free, and money value wise this was worth it as to buy the cheese costs more then the extra. I advise booking as our class was full. You can actually eat quite a lot of cheese and it did serve us as lunch following a full breakfast.

“Amazing cheese tasting”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 30, 2012

We did the special cheese tasting & its so worth it. You get a block of cheese to take home worth about €10 which makes the price ideal. Their cheese is matured the old way in a special cheese house and in some of the more mature cheeses you can taste the oak. Our guide was very knowledgeable about cheese in general & explained the difference between supermarket cheeses & speciality cheese like theirs. You cut the cheese yourself so can have as much as you like and the wine served matches the cheese well. You just visit the shop and taste cheese but I enjoyed the information she presented & recommend doing the tasting. If you're short on cash though just go & taste some really nice cheese.
