“Worthwhile if you have the time”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 14, 2013

The Bloemenmarkt, or flower market on the Singel Canal is about one block long and takes five minutes to walk from one end to the other. Although called floating flower market, there is no evidence of anything other than permanent store fronts until and unless you look at the side of the last structure and notice that it extends into the canal. There are indeed many varied and interesting species of flowers and seeds in the various shops along the canal, and many souvenir shops on the other side of the street.

“Selling your soul”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed June 10, 2013

It is amazing how even flower enthusiasts and grandmas interested in buying tulips are exposed to drugs. I'm not sure if there are any sellers who would NOT also sell kannabis seeds etc growing material. In my opinion it would be better to keep this market only for flowers - the other tourists would find their seeds somewhere else anyway.

“June is not the month for cut flowers”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 7, 2013

We must have visited at the wrong time of the year, as there were barely any cut flowers. Mostly what are available here are tulip flower bulbs, seed packets and lots of souvenirs. So if you were looking to buy bulbs to take home then here would be the place to do so. You can get bags of 10 bulbs for € 3 or bulbs for € 7.50. Prices among the stores are competitive and are all about the same price.

To go through the market would take maximum 30 minutes so if you are pressed for time you can easily do this.

“Millions of bulbs, very few cut flowers”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 5, 2013

It's probably the time of the year (early June), so every shop was selling various bulbs and very few cut flowers. There were only a few shops selling flowers, towards the end of the market (Koningsplein end). I bought 10 French paper roses for 7.50 euros. I did buy a lovely long scarf, black background with yellow tulips for 15 euros. It's made of "100% artificial silk" whatever that is!
