“Eye opener for kids”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 21, 2013

I truly enjoyed wondering around this museum, although got lost few times and walked around in circles. The former civic orphanage is a great place to take your kids to see how it felt being a kid at that time. Although its a bit too dark in places and small children might find it a bit scary.
Amsterdam past Exhibition has various exhibits as well as maps and stats about this great city. It's a good quiet place to visit if you have seen the art museums or have less time to spent.
It's tucked away on one of the side streets,an has a nice restaurant downstairs.

“Really good way to learn about Amsterdam's history”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 15, 2013

It poured one of the days of our visit and so we decided to spend the morning at the Amsterdam Museum. What a great, well-managed and well-maintained museum. The DNA exhibit was fantastic and engaging.

“Lots of information in bad layout”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 14, 2013

As long as you don't mind feeling lost most of the time, you do learn a lot about the history of Amsterdam. There are many artifacts and educational displays as well as nice use of technology, some of which did not work. Overall worth a visit - we went here first to understand the city and its history before we started exploring all the sights.

“Cool Museum”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 14, 2013

This is the best museum to visit if you want to know about Amsterdam history. They have a very cool display which all is mostly modern and visitor can watch movie, or listen to history or even smell what the VOC have been trading.

“I learned a lot about Amsterdam”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 7, 2013

This museum is really in two parts - one gives you the highlights of the development of the city and the is more like an historical exhibition of the dutch history. The first experience is very good. A really modern multimedia exhibition which I really enjoyed. This alone makes it worth visiting. The audio guide gives you quite a lot of information in addition to the very good information all through the museum.
The second bit is not as good. The section devoted to the dutch golden age is wonderful and interesting, but the parts that shows the 18th century was closed (hopefully to upgrade it) as the 19th and 20th century was a bit outdated.
