“Good but could be great”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed December 21, 2013 via mobile

This was my fourth stay at the apartments, which are situated around the corner from the main hotel. This time, a few of the extras I've come to expect were missing. In the past I was welcomed with a tray containing coffee, tea and biscuits. Not this time. Also, only a single small soap. I had to visit the front desk for more. Wifi is free, but only for one device. You'll pay for multiple devices or if you exceed your download limit. Each apartment I've stayed in has had a different character. Room 705 is located on the top floor with a pretty attic sloped ceiling, a separate
bedroom with two single beds, and a view from the kitchen-lounge room on to the canals of the red light district. If you are in Amsterdam for an extended stay, you can't beat this location. It is close to central station and walking distance to most major attractions.

I was a little apprehensive about booking the NH Barbizon for a recent business trip after reading a few of the previous reviews - but found the hotel was perfectly suitable for a few days in Amsterdam.

The checkin staff was very nice and accommodating even though I checked in at noon. My room was nice and large, and more importantly clean and updated. Yes the TV was a little old, but it was in a nice wooden cabinet.

Overall I would surely stay in the NH Barbizon again and would recommend it to friends.

Check in was excellent. After that it goes downhill fast. The rooms are clean but very tired, the bed half collapsing, the bathrooms dated. Breakfast is poor quality and serve yourself buffet (reminding me of posh school dinners) is nowhere near 5 star. There are so much better four and five star hotels in Amsterdam. Read the reviews and stay somewhere else. Poor poor poor stay.

top drawer service from highly efficient desk staff - excellent location for exploring the dam - smoking rooms - nirvana - excellent ambience - will surely return - thank you for a lovely stay. Bang outside central station - easy walking to dam square and all central locations - excellent pubs and eateries a 5 minutes walk - very quiet for such a central location.

Room Tip: solid gold if you like a smoke

If I did not spend many nights in Hotels I would most probably be quite happy with the hotel
However this hotel is living in the past !! this is never ever a 5 star and in alot of parts of the world it would struggle to be a 3 star.
Grossley over priced, rooms tired amd well worn, and I do not expect to have to pay nearly $320.00 for a room with breakfast and then see ear plugs beside the bed !!!
Bath shower panel so loose that the water pressure moves it off the bath and all water goes over the bathroon floor.
No room to swing a cat and the smallest double bed I have seen in years.
A tv out of the arc --not seen one like that for years. Breakfast a little expensive at $32.00 each and parking $80.00.A total package of over $450.00 for 1 night.
Flowers dead in a bowl in reception -- need I go on.
It presumably justifies the rate based on location. I will not be back
Girls on reception very understanding but could do nothing to help us

Room Tip: Ensure you ask for a quiet room.

5 stars? Well a great smell of sewers in the hall from early afternoon to late night. The TV is completelly bloced...no pay TV and no possibility to connect any HDMI!. Rooms are small not like the one in the NH Krasnaposki in Dam Square. Breakfast is very small again not comparable with the NH in Dam Square. Overall I prefer the NH in Dam square....the staff was excellent...I have to say.....

Stayed here from Friday 29th - 1st December 2013. A very pleasant stay in a lovely hotel! We got upgraded to a King Room! Bed was huge, lovely big room with all the usuals and a lovely view of canal directly under our French doors! Hotel is opposite Centraal Station so no need for taxis/buses. Hotel reception area is beautiful and the staff very helpful. Ronald the Concierge in particular was a great help in allowing me to come round to his side of the desk to print out my boarding passes for EasyJet! A lovely gentleman! Free teas/coffees/juices/biscuits/sweets in the reception area for guests a nice touch. Overall, we had a great 1st time in Amsterdam and I'd highly recommend this hotel and would go back in a heartbeat!

Room Tip: We were in room 246, it was a bit noisy as there are bars all around the hotel, but they provided us...
