“Heart of the city! Heart of the heart!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 18, 2013

Yes, there are many good and even great hotels in the Netherland's capital, but this hotel-palace is something very special. If you are smart enough and made a good home work before coming to Amsterdam, you'll be lucky to get a room in NH Barbizon Place. But if you just arrived to Amsterdam's Centraal Station with no reservation, go straight to NH Barbizon, - just 3 minutes from the Station. Don't be surprised when you see The REAL PALACE in an active city area. In reality after stepping into the hotel you'll never hear any city noise or feel any discomfort. The place is a paradise for any traveler. I stayed there four days ( November 7 - 11, 2012) and know exactly how people feel there, because NH Barbizon Palace is the ideal place for any visit to this beautiful city. Main historical attractions? - a close vicinity of the hotel ! The unique combo of the inspiring authentic 17th-century facade and a modern comfort behind it! Almost 270 rooms, one royal suite, several more great suites (mine was a junior suite, room # 461) and several apartments - you have a good way to select what is for you. Many hotels in the world have different luxuries, but only here I saw such luxury as... pillow menu that let you choose you favorite pillow for a great night sleep. They offer even special Woman style rooms for female guests with a special preferences and taste... Once I had a technical problem with TV in my room and I was pleasently surprised to meet their specialist in... 4 minutes after the call. His name was Paulo van Melsen, six years at the hotel, a person with a great experience and a very good communication talents. I also met very good and helpful people at the front desk... In other words - my stay there was very good and more than very memorable.
So, if you plan a trip to Amsterdam, keep in mind the NH Barbizon Palace, you will never regret.
See my pictures, they are real. And I highly recommend this hotel for single traveler or a family.

I go to Amsterdam once ever 6 months, and I have stayed in over 29 different hotels, nobody and i mean nobody can be as courteous and sincere as all their front desk clerks, basically u get a 5 star service while only paying for 3 stars, u get what im saying??? the price is such a bargain especially if you are a "smoker" cause the hotel is located near the entrance of WARMEOSTRAAT road!!!! BY FAR THE MOST SPACIOUS ROOMS, more Like 5 star amenities, so chill, AND THE CLEANEST/ NICEST ROOM I HAVE BEEN IN FOR THAT CHEAP PRICE!

THANK YOU MAGED SHOUKRY(American guesf)

First maiden trip to Europe. Cant wait! Was on a part biz part holiday trip with my pal. Ok onto the review as below.

ROOM ---
Comfortable room. 2 single beds welcome us. Acceptable bathroom with bathtub. Limited AC outlets in the room, some of them not working at all. Wi-Fi access is a breeze but required login and password, get the free passes everyday from the frontdesk. Rather old CRT TV in the room.

VIEW ---
Our rooms are on the top floor. Attic style. I should say is better than rooms facing walls or other hotel window. See pictures in my review. pretty nice i should say.

LOCATION ---
Although is not located in heart of Amsterdam but it is very near to the train station. Nearby to many shops, eateries, famous shopping areas (walk around 10-15mins) and famous RED LIGHT DISTRICT. Hope my pictures will help. (OH yes, NO pictures on the RED LIGHT though)

BREAKFAST ---
Just eat anywhere on the streets. If you crave for Chinese Food, head to THE NEW KINGS. Worth a try.

COMPLAINS and COMMENTS ---
No major complains. Just that the walk to our room is pretty stretched. We are placed right at the end of the hotel... Friendly Staff is a plus point too.

Arrived at the hotel at 10 am on a fri, staff were so helpful got our room ready within an hour. We were able to leave our bags locked up why we went for coffee. Hotel so clean and the room was the same. A little dated decor, but I'm sure improvements are being made at the moment. Such a central location yet very quiet at night, we had an outside room that looked onto the street. Food was lovely and so much choice, very fresh. The staff were kind and helpful 24/7, nothing was to much trouble. Two min walk from station, bars, restaurants and red light district. Over all we had a fantastic stay, will definitely stay again and would recommend it to everyone.

It is a shame really, as this hotel is in an absolute superb location, would be difficult to find a hotel better located. However apart from the ground floor, including the reception and bar, this hotel does need some 'updating'. The room was adequate for a short stay, warm and comfortable, and some nice little touches in the bathroom, if you forget anything, and tea and coffee making facilities, but apart from that, when comparing it to other 4* Hotels, I would only suggest a decent 3*. Staff though we found to be very polite and helpful.

For a couple of nights stay, if you want just the sights, and a good selection of restuarants and bars close by, and planning to spend little time in the hotel, then yes this hotel would be totally adequate.

Room Tip: Rooms at the back of the hotel are quieter

Last weekend I spent a night in NH Barbizon Palace as part of the first Dutch Hotel Night. I requested a triple room as I was traveling with two kids. The reception was very friendly and the front office staff made sure to make the kids feel extra welcome by addressing them directly in a very friendly fashion. The room was great: the hotel put in a third bed but the main bed was so big, it could easily fit the three of us. Breakfast was a big treat with a great selection of international and local dishes as well as a special kids corner. We had a great stay in this extremely well located hotel that has truly friendly staff. We will come back!

We booked the Barbizon Palace recommended by a friend because of its easy access to the train station, centre town and the touristic sights of Amsterdam. We also received a good rate.
And central it was: Opposite the train station; next to the Zeedijk with its many restaurants; and close to the centre and the canal town; at walking distance to Damplein, the shops and the museums

The reception area is spacious, with ample seating. Our room was on the 4th floor looking out to the canal at the back of the hotel. It had a large king bed with a good mattress, a desk and two easy chairs. The bathroom had toiletries and a hairdryer. All was clean. True there was some noise from the street, but it did not disturb us unduly.
The Reception staff was very pleasant and helpful. We were able to have our boarding cards printed, and our luggage was stored safely until our departure in the early evening.
As indicated by other reviewers, this is no longer a 5* hotel, and is in need of refurbishment. Still, we found it value for money taking into account the rate paid, the size of the room and comfortable bed, and last but not least – the perfect location close to all sights. We would choose the Barbizon again.
