My wife and I had a wonderful experience at the Grand. The staff was terrific. They made quality suggestions concerning restaurants, walking tours, and general sights based on our expressed desires. The room was extremely comfortable and we had a difficult time getting out of bed before 11:00 a.m.

I would definitely stay at the Grand again!

For the past five years we have treated ourselves to a 3 night stay at The Grand. We don't have much to add to the previous very positive comments except: If you are interested in C20 Art ask to see the Marriage Chamber, which is absolutely stunning. There is also an original painting in the entrance to the Roux Restaurant (by the CoBrA school)
Staff as friendly and helpful as ever, lovely room but we felt that there had been some cost cutting since last time (Summer 2005):
1.The changing rooms at the swimming pool used to have slippers for pool side; individual bottles of toiletries etc now there are just dispensers.
2. The restaurant used to make a feature of the fixed price menu, now it is almost hidden away on the main menu and only 2 choices per course (3 courses) at 38 euros - not such good value.
This may sound petty but it is a 5* hotel charging 5* prices and, unless you get a very good deal on the breakfast - go elsewhere, it's not worth 28euros!

A great hotel - lovely building and perfect location. Just two blocks from the Red Light District, it feels a world away if that is not your thing. The staff were extremely helpful and the rooms finished well (the bathroom was especially nice, capped by heated floor tiles - a little luxury in the chill of Amsterdam winter). There is also a very lush restaurant in the hotel which serves excellent food and a good wine list. We will definitely stay here on our next visit to Amsterdam.

Room (standard): The room wasn’t really big but certainly spacious. A very large and comfortable bed. The décor of the room was very warm and classic. A very large window overlooking the inner garden. The bathroom wasn’t very big but luxurious and plenty of souvenirs like a lot of Roger & Gallet products (which I was pleased to find there as I use them every day), a peak with little mirror, …

Area: The hotel is in the center of Amsterdam but in a safe and discreet location. The bars and shops not far from the hotel aren’t really nice, you can smell marihuana everywhere, but I suppose that’s Amsterdam.

Staff: Very professional, simply top! Very friendly and helpful.

Breakfast: I took breakfast in my room, which was expensive (32€) but very good. As you can see on the pictures it was breakfast and dinner in one.

Bar: The bar is very cosy with typical English furniture, very friendly and professional waiters. Ideal for a nice drink in the evening.

Café Roux: I had dinner in the restaurant, it was really excellent. I’ve visited a lot of restaurants but I must say I’ve tasted the best terrine ever in café Roux. My compliments to the very friendly sommelier, who served excellent wines with a story to every bottle. I would certainly recommend the restaurant.

If you like old chique and are willing to pay a reasonable amount, go there. This is the best hotel I ever stayed until now. The attention to details are incredible: chocolates on the bed in the evening, slippers with the logo of the hotel, the room constantly smelled like a rose, … The only negative thing about a hotel like The Grand is that it makes it more difficult to appreciate a more mediocrate hotel in the future.
