“Old Amsterdam atmosphere”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 16, 2013

On a quiet canal, centrally located, this hotel is a gem. We were greeted from the airport taxi by two friendly well-dressed gentlemen who looked after our bags. After being received warmly atnthe front desk, we were shown to our well appointed room with a state of the art bathroom. The fine cotton bedding was immaculate. All of our questions were answered promptly and courteously by any staff member we encountered. Right off the small tasteful lobby is a room called the library, with fireplace, cozy conversation groupings and several computers for our use. My here is free wifi in the rooms. I find it irritating to be charged in some 5 star hotels for wifi, so this was a pleasant addition to our enjoyment. There is also a full service spa, which we haven't tried yet. I love this hotel!!!

Room Tip: We were given a top (5th) floor room overlooking the canal which gave us a lovely view.

What a remarkable property - when you drive in its you're you're in a safe and peaceful sanctuary in the heart of Amsterdam a stine's throw away from Dam square. Friendly and attentive staff, excellent facilities. It's definitely amongst the best hotels I've stayed in.

From the moment we arrive everybody knows our name a welcome drink etc..... we expected the well organized Sofitel experience but this one is Topnotch.
Even the breakfast a little bit expensive but worth every penny(euro)

We will be back.

Room Tip: Higher floors are quieter

From the very moment we pulled up to The Sofitel Legend The Grand Amsterdam, we knew we made the perfect decision for our stay. Located in a courtyard, just off a canal, The Grand is a charming luxury hotel. Every moment in this hotel was pure pleasure. The accommodation was immaculate with every amenity imaginable. Our housekeeper was never seen, but our room was kept in perfect order with nightly turn down service. The Grill Restaurant, where breakfast is served, was an experience in itself. the Breakfast Buffet was one of the most elaborate I've ever seen and the wait staff was most attentive. The Concierge and Reception Desk were professional and helpful and the Doorman gave us a wealth of knowledge, since it was our first visit to Amsterdam. I looked forward to the end of the day, just to return to this magnificent hotel and step into a different world.

Room Tip: If you are offered an upgrade at check-in, it may be worth your while to take it for a few euros mor...

Very good hotel, but wake up call at 07.00 a.m. when you have not ordered it and newspaper not at the door knob as ordered, takes down valuation.
Excellent service with very friendly arrival proceedures.

From the moment you see the statuesque Grand set back from the delightful hustle and bustle of cosmopolitan Amsterdam you can't help be feel like you are stepping off the earth. Discrete service without any unneccessities and a professionalism and courtesy from every member of the team means whatever weight of the world you may be carrying remains at the front door.

Exploring the beautiful bars (do ask the price to rent a whiskey locker for the year, quite extraordinary!) at each side of the central atrium or relaxing in the library were a particular favourite as we indulged in a little people watching before heading into the city. Superb recommendations of where to dine, visit and relax can be garnered from the concierge whatever your taste.

It was our first time in Amsterdam and on our return visit we shall look no further than the Grand.
