“FABULOUS!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 22, 2012

The staff, property itself, and amenities are superb. The location is on a quiet canal and the decor is elegant modern. The staff was beyond helpful-- they did everything they could to make our stay exceptional... which it was. One of the nicest hotels we have ever stayed in!

Very nice hotel. Recently renovated rooms and common areas. The staff was great and very friendly. We were assigned a buttler to take care of reservations, problems, etc. This service was excellent. The hotel is not cheap, you will spend some money, but it was worth it. The seafood restaurant in ther lobby is one of the best in town.

My husband and I stayed from Friday till Sunday. What a lovely hotel from the time your arrive till the time you depart the staff make it as memorable as possible. Great location, in walking distance of everything but tucked away from the busy streets. Our room over looked the canal. The room was very chic, very good use of space. Bose speakers in your room & also in the bathroom. Chocolates & water left in your room was a nice touch. If you are planning a trip then please book this hotel, maybe aliitle more expensive than the others but you will be very impressed. A Luxury hotel in class of its own.

A wonderful experience, our stay at the Grand was fantastic, beautiful room with view of courtyard, loved the Nespreso machine great to have a decent cup of coffee in you room.
Little touches like lovely packets of biscuits being left in room and chocs left on pillow of a night very lovely. On the second night an invitation to Champagne (Moet) and finger food in the Library very nice. Loved the Bridges, fantastic food with great service ate there twice for dinner and once for breakfast, wonderful. Do yourself a favour and stay at the Grand the staff in all areas of the hotel were fantastic very considerate and obliging nothing was to much trouble for them, will definately stay there when back in Amsterdam,.

The staff is businesslike, but not warm and friendly. Doormen regarded us with disdain when we arrived pulling our own suitcases. Waitress in expensive restaurant was brisk; we enjoy seeing help that is warm and smiling. The room was large but furnishings were boring and uninspired, minimalistic. since the weather was bad, we were glad to be able to be here to get out of the cold rain and the mess of Queen's Day.
When we first entered I was most put off by the display of fifteen full sized nude women bronze statues placed all over the lobby. One statue showed a nude woman hanging over a clothesline, as though she had been used and hung out to dry. The display was very offensive.
Dinner in the restaurant was good but very expensive.

Room Tip: Canal view room we had was a good view.

The Sofitel Legend The Grand is grand indeed. Located within the Central Canal Ring you know that you will be staying at a grand hotel the minute you walk into the central cobblestoned courtyard. We were greeted by several doorman who handled our luggage, then escorted us to the front desk. Equally impressive was the courteousness and thoroughness of the staff. Our luggage arrived wiithin minutes of arriving in our superior room. Room 410 (top floor) faced one of canals. We had a lovely view. Our room was well-appointed with a very comfortable bed and down-duvet. The bathroom has a wonderful walk-in shower with both rain-shower head and a separate shower wand. Towels hung on a warming rack which was very nice. The first morning we treated ourselves to the scrumptious buffet breakfast The waitstaff was very attentive and pleasant. After a long day of walking Amsterdam we took advantage of the in-house swimming pool and sauna. The spa is serene, quiet, clean and well stocked with towels and a perfect way to refresh. The Sofitel is only several blocks away from the Red Light District and Dam Square where you can hop onto any tram or bus to take you around Amsterdam. The concierge was always helpful in arranging dinner reservation even at the last minute. Check out was very easy and the staff had arranged for a taxi to take us to Schipol Airport. The Sofitel Leged The Grand is a superb luxury hotel.
