My girlfriend spent a wonderful three nights at the Pulitzer in Oct. of 04. Amsterdam is a beautiful, old city with incredible charm, and the Pulitzer is a great match. We had a well appointed room on the third floor with great views of the canal. The room was clean, quiet, with a modern marble bathroom, and a very comfortable bed. The Pulitzer had been recommended to us by friends and family, and for very good reason. The staff was friendly and professional, and saw to our every need. The hotel bar is really cool and deserves a special mention. Great place for a drink or two after taking in the sites. The hotel is also perfectly located and allows you to walk everywhere.

While in Amsterdam, the Pulitzer is a prime location on the canal, and is a great pick for understated European luxury.

Very nice hotel. Good location and rooms very comfortable. Very relaxing stay. We had breakfast included which is of high quality.

The problems?

1, We were doubled-charged for our bills which was a nice treat when we returned and checked our bank statements. No sign that this was going to happen at the time of check out. It's still being resolved.

2, Large number of guests are intolerent of European countries where American is not the first language. If in doubt, do try to speak the native tongue rather than shouting louder and louder.

Would I stay here again? Maybe, if the double-charge gets sorted out. If not, no way!

I was supposed to stay at the Hotel Pulitzer for six nights, scheduled to fly home on September 12, 2001.

Even before 9/11, I found the hotel charming, my room lovely (my only complaint: the marble bathroom floor was so slick I slipped every single time I bathed), the staff was very friendly. The front desk folks were always smiling and helpful with advice, directions, etc. The restaurant was good.

I ended up spending extra nights at the hotel because the airspace closed up in the US so I couldn't go home. A NY'er, I was very shaken up by the attacks, and the staff went above and beyond the call of duty. I ran out of my Rxs during my longer stay and the concierge hooked me up with a doctor who spoke English, fit me into his schedule that AM, and was just wonderful (he surmised I was not sleeping well with the stress and asked me if I needed sleeping pills). Everything I asked for, they hooked me up with, and I feld handled with kid gloves.

The room was nice (marble bathroom, comfortable bed) but I was on the first floor off of Prinsengraht so it was really noisy. I do not understand why they don't have double paned glass. I could hear every time someone unchained their bicycle or merely walked by. If you stay here do not get a room on the ground level. Also, the light was out in the hallway in front of my room, but they never changed it in the three days that I was there. That is not a luxury hotel.

That said, the staff was friendly and generally helpful and the location is really convenient. I would probably stay here again, but I would make sure I got a different room. To their credit, the staff did let me know that it was a louder room and offered to change it if I didn't like it but I was too lazy to move the second day.
