The Hotel Pulitzer is comprised of several former homes on one big block to form a bigger hotel. The hotel is filled with charm, but it can be quite a process winding your way up and down the hallways, to find your room, due to the pathways that connect the former homes.

The standard rooms are very nice. They're the quaint size of the average NYC hotel, and not the room size of some of the bigger hotels in the middle of America. I chose a garrden room, only because I wanted quiet, and I did not know how much noise there might be near the canal.

The queen size bed I had was split right down the middle with two separate duvet white comforters on top of the queen bed, so that two people could each have their own blanket for their own "side." It was somewhat annoying, as the blanket for your side is small. But the room is very clean, and very up to date. BOSE speakers next to your bed, nice lighting, and hardwood floors. There is turndown service, great bathrobes, slippers, chocolate by your bedside.

The bathroom is also clean and sophisticated, but small. The marble floor is heated! There is a mini-bar with motion sensors, so don't take anything out if you don't want to be charged.

The concierge of the hotel is hit or miss. Some of the staff is very courteous, others are somewhat stuck up. They did recommend buying a ticket in advance to Van gogh Museum, and I was able to buy it there. Great advice, because the museum is mobbed with ticket buyers. There is usually a wait to get help at the concierge desk.

Hotel Pulitzer is incredibly close to the Anne Frank House Museum...but further away from the center of town. But everything is within walking distance. Ultimately, a hotel I would stay at again, and highly recommended.

My son and I just returned from a one week stay at the Hotel Pulitzer and a father/son pre-college trip to Amsterdam. The hotel is centrally located on a quiet street, directly on one of the major canals and surrounded by lovely neighborhoods with shops and many excellent cafes and restaurants. It is a very short walk to the Anne Frank House and close to yet far enough from the bustling city center and Dam Square area. We had an "executive" room on the top (5th) floor with wooden floors and a nice view of the canal. The room was very comfortable, but not really luxurious. The hotel is a series of very attractive inter-connected canal houses and has a charming European ambience. There is a beautiful sculpture garden, which is an extremely plesant setting for a late afternoon drink when the weather is nice. The staff was courteous and efficient, though the concierge seemed a bit slow to respond to requests for dinner reservations. By the end of the week, I was booking restaurant reservations myself to avoid feeling aggravated. The week we were there, the vast majority of the guests seemed to be American. I would likely stay here again and would not hesitate to recommend this hotel to a friend.

Stayed here with 5 girlfriends for one night last weekend, we booked two rooms with 3 beds in them.
The rooms were a good size and the extra bed they gave us was very confortable, we booked via the internet and the price we got was excellant.
My only grumble is the very expensive bar, 6 drinks 60.00euro's which I thought was very expensive.
Overall a great place to stay slightly out of the hussle and bussle, but well worth the short walk

I know this is meant to be a 5 star hotel, but it feels more like a 4. But it's in a good location, over looking a canal and about 10 mins walk to the main Dam square.
The rooms are not huge but big enough, but they have been put together nicely and there are a lot of nice touches.
We didn't eat in the hotel but the staff were very friendly and helpful.

My wife and I stayed four nights at the Pulitzer a couple of weeks ago. I don't know if its standard practice or we just looked like beautiful people but we had a spacious, stylish canal view room just one floor above the bar. I think the location is excellent, easy walking distance to main attractions but not surrounded by the crowds and the hop on/off boat stops about two minutes away. The bar is cosy and well run, breakfast was fresh and plentiful and all the staff were pleasant. If you can afford to stay at the Pulitzer don't bother with anyting else
