“The bath towels were bigger than the Bathroom.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 15, 2013

We have just spent 2 nights in Amsterdam at this Hotel. Great location, close to Anne Frank Museum, Hop on Hop off Bus Station and lots of very good restaurants. Within walking distance of most sights. My only complaint is that we were placed in a room that was an attic and to get to the room we had to walk quite a distance to Elevators 'B', ride to the 4th floor and then walk up a set of very steep and narrow stairs to get to our room. We were not advised of this when we checked in. We are both just over 60 and very fit but I would have preferred a room on a lower floor as we only had a view across rooftops. Being a Starwood member I was not given any preferential treatment when I asked for a canal view room only advised that if I paid 50 euros extra I could upgrade.

Overall the Hotel is very nice, the bed was extremely comfortable and the room was quiet, as you would expect being in the attic, but on the small side with the bathroom being very tight.

I would definitely stay at this Hotel again but would request a room on a lower floor.

Room Tip: Lower floors with canal views if the price is right.

Dear babyboomer58sydney,

Thank you very much for your recent stay at Hotel Pulitzer, a Luxury Collection Hotel. I am very thankful for the feedback you provided us with, as we always strive to improve our product and services.
Please accept our sincere apologies for the room allocation, as the hotel consists out of 25 monumental canal houses, we do offer some rooms which are only accessible via a set of stairs. However, our receptionists should indeed have informed you before sending you to this particular room.

I do hope we may welcome you back to Hotel Pulitzer during your next visit to Amsterdam so we can ensure an exceptional, indigenous stay for you!

With warm regards,

Alex van Gastel

We were 3 adult women on a special trip for 4 nights sharing one room. One of us had a bit of a mobility issue, and the hotel took that into consideration when assigning us a room. And as the room was empty they allowed an early check-in which was much appreciated. I suggest seeing the room before moving the luggage, as the first room was quite small and the second room was about twice the size of the first and easy to get to from the main elevators. Just a short flight of stairs and on the top floor. Very quiet, comfortable beds.
Concierge is very helpful in ordering taxis and recommending restaurants, providing directions, etc. If you need a wheelchair, the hotel has one, you just need to reserve it ahead of time.
Our rate included the breakfast which was excellent buffet with made to order eggs. The bar is welcoming as well. We like the "9 little streets" area in the Jordaan which the hotel is in the middle of. Its also very close to Anne Frank house and the Noordemarkt flea market on Saturdays and Monday mornings. Just an 8 minute walk to Dam Square. We loved the upscale neighborhood with the boutiques. Pancakes! Amsterdam is just a block and half walk (better than the pancake bakery, but tiny).
All the staff were friendly and helpful and we felt very welcome and would highly recommend this property.

Room Tip: Family room is worth the space if you are more than 2 people and can share one bathroom, otherwise g...

I was blown away by this property. The history, the grounds, the gardens. And the rooms and service. We were greeted warmly by a fantastic front desk rep who checked us in, gave us the overview, free internet and then stashed our bags until it was time for checkin. The staff was always friendly and helpful - was nice to be greeted at the door upon leaving and returning. Overall, this hotel raised the bar for my trip -- and unfortunately no other property could compare!

Oh, and the location. It's OUTSTANDING. 5-minute walk to the Anne Frank house and every other place you'd want to visit in Amsterdam.

Room Tip: Ask for a canal-view upgrade!

We stayed for a couple of nights at the Hotel Pulitzer as part of a longer family vacation in Europe. The hotel was very nice with good service. The kids particularly loved the hot chocolate. The rooms are definitely small and we had to get two to fit our family, but the location and setting is beautiful and well worth it. Finally, we took a canal ride on their hotel's boat which was a highlight of our trip to Amsterdam.

Stayed four nights. Great location. Hotel is in a quiet area with many local cafes and restaurants. Easy and interesting walk to the centre and museum zone. Approx 100 metres from tram system and Canal Bus stop which makes all of Amsterdam easily accessible.
Very very comfortable bed. Just a bit expensive but would stay again.

Room Tip: Room 411 is at the front of the hotel on the fourth floor overlooking the canal.

We paid £450 for two nights room-only at this hotel (Fri/Sat). Whatever you do, if you want a relaxing time, refuse to stay in room 261! Our room was reached via a corridor with flaking plaster walls (there was a sign on the wall apologising for its state, which didn't comfort me). The room itself was not particularly large or well-furnished and unfortunately was directly opposite a glass corridor with residents walking past, so we had to keep the net curtains closed as our room was directly overlooked at close quarters. Worst of all, our room was directly next to the cleaner's room and she was in and out of the room from 8 a.m. onwards- the door closed heavily numerous times, there were running taps and banging noises. If I had been staying on business, perhaps I would have been up by 8 a.m., but we planned for a relaxing weekend break and were thus disappointed. When I brought it up with a receptionist she just adopted a rictus smile and apologised... I tried to explain that I thought that this was an inadequate response but she just smiled and shrugged. Whilst the bathroom was well-equipped and the hotel is well-located, I don't think it is remotely 5 star; at least if you stay at a Premier Inn and you don't have a good night's sleep they give you your money back!

Room Tip: Avoid room 261.

I've stayed at the Hotel Pulitzer twice, and I absolutely love it. The hotel itself is gorgeous, and I love wandering the hallways and breezeways to get to the rooms. Of course, the rooms are pretty small and I think the shower head is made for people under 5 feet tall, but the location is perfect, the staff is extremetly attentive and the restaurant and bar are fantastic.

It's within perfect walking distance of a lot of museums and restaurants. I would definitely recommend this to anyone.

Room Tip: Spend a little extra on a deluxe room so you can have a view of the canal. All of the rooms are smal...
