My wife and I recently spent 3 nights at the Hotel Pulitzer. The hotel is quaint and is located in a peaceful and picturesque area of Amsterdam within an easy walk of the heart of the Nine Streets and Jordaan districts of the city. In addition, the hotel is located within easy walking distance of one the Westermarket tram stop, which appears to be one of the better serviced tram stops in the city.
Although the location of the hotel was excellent, we were disappointed by the quality and size of the rooms. Given the somewhat unique nature of the property as the aggregation of a number of previously independent apartments/homes, it seems that the quality, size and accessibility of the rooms varies significantly. Unfortunately for us, we ended up in a relatively small room on the 3rd floor which could only be accessed by navigating a set of stairs. Making matters worse, we didn't have a good experience with the hotel concierge. We tried to make meal reservations on at least 4 occasions - twice with the name of a place in mind and twice where we were open to suggestions - and were never able to actually make a reservation. In two of these cases, we were told that the restaurant didn't take reservations (in both cases they did) and in the other cases we were essentially told that we'd be better served to walk around and pick something once we got to a general area. This is certainly not the type of service we expected from such a pricey hotel.
Since the hotel is a collection of old apartments, the quality of rooms seems to vary dramatically...
