“Weekend Break”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 10, 2013

We stayed her for 2 nights in early October. A pleasant walk from the main train station and perfect location overlooking a canal. Our room was spacious and the bed sumptuous. Great choice for breakfast and genuinely polite staff.

We stayed here for 4 nights and the hotel is impressive. It's made out of a bunch of Amsterdam style houses, we were appointed a top floor room so we felt like we were in a cabin because the sealing was the roof of one of the houses

The concierge team is very good and knows how to give great tips about places to go in Amsterdam.

Bed was great and bath rooms also.

We did not have breakfast in the hotel so we can say anything about it.

Dear Sammy D,

Thank you very much for your review on TripAdvisor.
Hotel Pulitzer indeed consist of 25 authentic Canal Houses, dating back from the 17th and 18th century. Did you also read the story in your room with regards to the history of the house you stayed in? We recently implemented the background information on the Canal Houses, so that the houses truly come to live again.

I hope we may welcome you again in Hotel Pulitzer.

With warm regards,

Alex van Gastel

My wife and I recently spent 3 nights at the Hotel Pulitzer. The hotel is quaint and is located in a peaceful and picturesque area of Amsterdam within an easy walk of the heart of the Nine Streets and Jordaan districts of the city. In addition, the hotel is located within easy walking distance of one the Westermarket tram stop, which appears to be one of the better serviced tram stops in the city.

Although the location of the hotel was excellent, we were disappointed by the quality and size of the rooms. Given the somewhat unique nature of the property as the aggregation of a number of previously independent apartments/homes, it seems that the quality, size and accessibility of the rooms varies significantly. Unfortunately for us, we ended up in a relatively small room on the 3rd floor which could only be accessed by navigating a set of stairs. Making matters worse, we didn't have a good experience with the hotel concierge. We tried to make meal reservations on at least 4 occasions - twice with the name of a place in mind and twice where we were open to suggestions - and were never able to actually make a reservation. In two of these cases, we were told that the restaurant didn't take reservations (in both cases they did) and in the other cases we were essentially told that we'd be better served to walk around and pick something once we got to a general area. This is certainly not the type of service we expected from such a pricey hotel.

Room Tip: Since the hotel is a collection of old apartments, the quality of rooms seems to vary dramatically...

Very good place to stay, great location. Rooms are on the smaller side, but nicely appointed. Staff could do with more training though: we asked the congierge to book us on the bus to the airport and were assuered of it. However, upon departure our names were not on the list of the driver, seemngly due to an error of the congierge team..

As Starwood members we stay at Luxury Collection hotels in Europe. The room was small but comfy. Amenities great, even sent a birthday cake!

Front desk staff was kind & courteous & the concierge helpful.

Enjoyed it immensely & would come back.

Breakfast buffet is pricey but worth it!

The Pulitzer is located in a picturesque neighborhood along a lovely canal in central Amsterdam. The hotel has a small lobby but has a good "feel" to it. Plenty of nice seating areas with a great morning breakfast. We had an Executive Room facing the garden on the third floor. It was quiet, with a cute seating area and comfy bed. Windows are large and open for nice ventilation. The bathroom is large for an old European hotel. Would stay again.

Dear 2hi2cu,

We do thank you for having chosen Hotel Pulitzer for your stay in Amsterdam and also for taking the time to share your experience.

I am delighted to read that my team was able to provide you with an exceptional and indigenous experience. The Jordaan area is indeed a very picturesque place, where a lot of Amsterdam locals live. Personally I think it has a very cozy feeling to it. Furthermore I am happy to read you enjoyed the setting and design of your room.

With warm regards,

Alex van Gastel

A great value using points. I did not read the email that the hotel sent until the last minute and missed the opportunity for 50 euro canal room upgrade. The spacious room (304) overlooked the lovely courtyard and was very quiet. I was very pleased that I did not upgrade my room since in my opinion the canal doesn't look that pretty. The bed was comfortable and the bathroom was fairly big and well appointed. All the staffs are polite and helpful especially at the check in. It is an easy walk to Dam square and Centraal station. Request late check out at 4 pm for SPG platinum was granted with a smile. The free breakfast for SPG platinum was great with a lots of variety. I will not hesitate to return.
