“Perfect Location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 25, 2013

My wife and I spent 5 days at the Pulitzer while touring Amsterdam. Our room was very quaint. Looked like old world Holland. It had a queen bed and lots of space. The bathroom was small but very functional. We ate breakfast in the hotel most every day. The concierge desk was very helpful. The hotel was 1 block from the Anne Frank house and within walking distance of everywhere we wanted to see. We took a canal tour on the hotel boat the day we arrived. I recommend that as it helped us get our bearings on the city. The staff throughout the property was very friendly. I would certainly recommend it to everyone.

My wife and I had a brief (too brief) stay in Amsterdam on our way to Prague. The Hotel Pulitzer was the perfect place for our short visit. Well located, clean, attentive staff, wonderful breakfast - overall a nice property. I have to agree with some of the other reviews - charging for wireless seems a little goofy. Add $10 to the price of the room and include the internet - at these prices who would even notice :) All in all a very nice hotel!

Due to the layout of the hotel (25 converted canal houses) our room was very isolated and quiet. I really enjoyed the lovely gardens. It was wonderful after a day of touring to sit in the gardens and "reflect." Our experience with the concierge team (in fact all of the front desk staff) was excellent as they helped us to plan our day.In addition to being a great hotel, the Pulitzer has an outstanding location. It is in walking distance to many attractions and is also convenient to the tram and bus stops.

Room Tip: Our room did not face the canal. While the canal view might have been nice, the canal can get pretty...

Arrived in Amsterdam after a Rhine River cruise and spent 3 days and 2 nights at the Pulitzer. Service was excellent, room was great and the location was superb! You can walk everywhere from this hotel and its location one block from the Anne Frank House was very convenient. The concierge was terrific and they have a great little bar tucked away at the back of the hotel, which is actually about 25 historic "canal" house have been amalgamated into one wonderful hotel. The private canal cruise is also worth taking!

Just completed a European vacation that included 6 different cities and hotels and this one was by far my favorite. Was traveling with two teenagers (15 and 17) and the wife so we had to book two rooms. They provided us with two adjoining rooms that worked out great for us. Though relatively small the rooms were very really nice and had that old world charm. The hotel iteself dates back to the 1700s....but have gone through many renovations so it also has modern feel.

The location is great...walking distance to many of the main attractions but far enough away from some of the main plazas and red light district. Food was a little expensive and I was traveling with individuals on strict gluten free diets so we ended up eating elsewhere.

I used Shereton's cash and points program which turned out to be a great value. This is a one of kind hotel and part of the Shreton Luxury Collection with a ton of history so strongy recommend for Starwood members to jump at opportunity to day here.

Room Tip: You could actually walk to this hotel from the train station (about 12 blocks) and save yourself som...

We stayed for 5 nights in July and lived every minute. The location is perfect, canal houses beautiful from the outside and gardens in hotel gorgeous. The staff was so friendly and helpful especially Peter and Ronald the concierges. Don't miss the canal tour on the hotel's boat The Tourist. Captain was awesome and very informative. We really enjoyed the wine dinner at the wine salon. The bar especially the blue room was a great place to have a drink after a full day of sight seeing and bike riding. Could have stayed a month. Highly recommend this hotel.

As everyone else has mentioned, this place has an ideal location.

Immediate points off for the outrageous prices for internet. Really, internet still isn't free!

Aside from that, the hotel has some charm and quirks due to it being a combination of 20+ historic canal houses. It is nothing like a standard cookie-cutter high-end hotel. The rooms vary dramatically (I saw three in the same price category that were very different). I had a large room with vaulted ceilings, little view, and a tiny but luxurious bathroom. A friend had a small room, great views and a large luxurious bathroom. I expect this all results from the hotel trying to maintain the historic architecture. So you take some risk in what room you'll get when you book here. Another effect of combing 20+ canal houses is that the hotel is sprawling. The furthest rooms are a bit of a walk. Overall, however, this place has character that is missing in similarly priced hotels.

Other things to note - Service was fine, but nothing special. The inner courtyard where my group had drinks one afternoon is beautiful. The boat ride on the hotel's historic canal boat was one of the highlights of our trip to Amsterdam.

Dear Wiestq,

Thank you very much for your wonderful review on TripAdvisor. It was truly a pleasure having you as our guest.

You are correct in saying that all rooms in Hotel Pulitzer are unique, we indeed strive to maintain as much of the historic architecture the Canal Houses have to offer. I am sorry to read you did not find the service level of our Ambassadors to be very special. Making our guests feel special is one of the highest priorities, and I am sorry that we were not able to provide you with this important value.

I do hope we may welcome you again in Hotel Pulitzer.

With warm regards,

Alex van Gastel
