“Unusual hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 26, 2013

Because this is a hotel made from many homes there are several staircases, hallways and elevators. We kept getting lost until we finally figured out we had to go to the fourth floor to get to our third floor room and take stairs down and back up again where our room faced a stairwell. We stayed in a suite upgrade facing the canal 8 months ago, so we know how unique each room is. I appreciate the quirkiness and love this hotel. There is a nice outdoor patio to have afternoon tea or wine.

The staff is fabulous, so friendly and helpful. The breakfast is quite good. The location is in a beautiful area next the the Anne Frank House and near the tram. It's close to the Dam and a short walk to the museum and shopping district.

Room Tip: Expect rooms to be small

Dear Hammercollector,

Thank you very much for your ratings and review on TripAdvisor. I am delighted to read we were able to welcome you back again! Indeed, every room in Hotel Pulitzer is unique, all have their own shapes and sizes.
Hotel Pulitzer is indeed not quite a 'cookie-cutter' hotel, however our Porters are always more than welcome to show you around the hotel and to your room.

With warm regards,

Alex van Gastel

Loved our stay at Pulitzer. We stayed 3 nights in standard room. Great location/area to stay, quiet but close to many attractions. Very comfortable rooms, beds. We had great restaurants recommendations from hotel in Joordan area. History behind each room and building made our stay special and memorable.

Our room was small, with a tiny en suite - but hey, this is Amsterdam! The accommodation and hotel in general was immaculate and stylish, and the service is excellent. The bar is nice but expensive - two small shots of a popular liqueur cost about the same as a bottle of it in the local supermarket. Wi-fi is extra, as usual (why??). The breakfast bar was the weak point. There was a choice of breads and cold meats, but the hot buffet wasn't good: soggy sautes, over-boiled beans, and some scrambled egg in puddle of water. Plus a big vat of bacon strips that might once have been crispy but had long since gone soft. This (plus a limited menu) put us off trying the restaurant for dinner. Instead, we went to 'de Struisvogel' (ostrich) round the corner for superb venison at an excellent price.
Otherwise a nice hotel,.

My husband and I just had a lovely three night stay at the Hotel Pulitzer, which is in a beautiful location overlooking the Prinsengracht canal and close to attractions and several good restaurants. Service was excellent. Check-in was a breeze and took less than a minute. Every member of staff was friendly and polite. The concierge staff was helpful and knowledgeable. We liked the fact that we were staying in a historical 17th or 18th century canal house. This is not a cookie-cutter hotel. And the beds are extremely comfortable. A lovely touch is the hotel's own wood-panelled boat and elegant captain - a very civilized way to explore the surrounding canals. We will be back.

Room Tip: Our room overlooked the canal on the fourth floor and we found it quiet with lovely views.

Dear JOSxx,

Thank you for your wonderful words on Hotel Pulitzer! I am very proud to read you consider your stay with us as a unique and authentic one.
Indeed, the Canal Houses in which Hotel Pulitzer is situated, date back to the 17th and 18th century.
Furthermore I am delighted to read you enjoyed the boat tour on 'The Tourist', our own hotel boat. In this actual vessel, Sir Winston Churchill explored the wonderful city of Amsterdam in 1946.

My colleagues and I have been staying at Hotel Pulitzer several times the past 8 months, and it is always a pleasure. Reception is very welcoming and bar is a pleasant place to relax. Travelling for business quite a lot, I enjoy the layout of the hotel and rooms that reminds me that I'm in fantastic Amsterdam. It is truly a great hotel!
The breakfast staff is always very accommodating to our tight schedule and provide us with take-away boxes and cups so we still manage to have some food on the way to work.

Top compliments go to evening restaurant employees: such attention to detail is a rare find! They are always on the op of their toes to make sure we have a pleasant experience and we always feel genuinely welcomed by them - and the food is great, too.

Until next time!

Stayed in the hotel on two different occasions, and on both the service was excellent with very friendly staff, great breakfast, comfortable rooms with all the needed amenities. What makes the hotel spacial is the historical buildings that gives the feeling of stepping back in time but with todays luxuries. Last it's an excellent location that is close to all the shopping and fine dining especially in the Jordaan area.

I just came back from an 8 night stay at Pulitzer Hotel (April 5-13). I can't speak enough as to how wonderful the entire staff was. At first I was put into a not so great room but as soon as I expressed my displeasure I was immediately changed into another room (while enjoying a free beverage at the espresso bar). The wonderful staff (Dominique especially!) as well as Marleen (front desk) and Hellen (duty manager) made our trip even more special for my husband and I by taking the effort to leave us a few special items in our rooms as we were celebating our anniversary (they left us champagne, cookies and treats for us and our children back home in NJ). The hotel itself is also beautiful and our room as very nice. Location is fantastic - next to a lot fo things but in a nice quiet section of the city. We also went to the Pulitzer bar and it was fantastic - great drinks and awesome ambience - dark leather couches, mood lighting etc. Next time I am in Amsterdam I will definitely come back!.

Room Tip: if you want sleep, get a garden room - very pretty view with 2 large windows overlooking the gardens...
