This was my second stay at the Hotel Pulitzer and I just love this hotel. It is in a great location with easy access to many of the tourist sites. The front desk staff were helpful and courteous when we checked in. We paid using Starwood points and did not find this to be an issue at all.

The concierge staff at the hotel is wonderful. They helped us with planning a day trip to the Keukenhof Gardens -- which is amazing and definitely a 'must see'. They recommended two great restauarnts within a short walking distance from the hotel (Bloem and Proeverij 274). Both of these restaurants were fantastic. And we also did one of the guided bike tours organized through the concierge. This was a great experience as well -- the guide was knowledgeable and we truly enjoyed our time with him. During our stay at the Pulitzer we took the boat ride offered by the hotel and that was a nice excursion as well.

The bar in the hotel is great and is a nice spot to relax after a day of sightseeing. We also had the breakfast buffet which is a little expensive for 27 euros a person but the convenience can't be beat. The quality of the food is good and the staff were very pleasant.

I would highly recommend this hotel and will be staying there every time I travel to Amsterdam.

I travel to Amsterdam frequently for business and have stayed at the Pulitzer several times in Fall 2007 and Winter 2008. It is very well located and impressive on arrival but it is not the 5 star experience I have had at other Starwood hotels. While it is quaint to be in an assembly of historic town houses, the up and downs it takes to get to one's room gets old. The rooms are ok. While there are desks it is a very dark to try to actually do some work. And the price for internet is absurb. The bed is the same great Westin bed that keeps us business travelers loyal to Starwood. The baths have been so-so.

The neighborhood is really very nice and one of the reasons to stay at this hotel. However, I have now located another hotel nearby that is about half the price but with even more charm.

My boyfriend and I stayed here in March of 2008 to celebrate my Birthday. I was really hesitant in booking since the reviews online were very mixed but since I was using points and the room was free I wanted to make my own judgement. They listed things like the hotel being not nice to customers booking with starwood points, mold in the bathroom, rooms being small, no drawer space, noisy on the canal side, hearing people walk above them, mice, food poisioning etc. I have to say with all honesty that I am a very picky person when it comes to the hotels I stay in and expect alot whether I am using points or paying for the room. I did not find one of these things listed to be accurate.

We arrived at 7:15am from America after being on a flight all night with little sleep. The hotel gave us a room until our room would be ready after 3pm. They didn't have to do that - as a matter of fact most hotels would have just offered to hold the luggage. I found every person from the front hotel desk to the concierge nothing but nice.

They treated us like they couldn't do enough for us. We were using starwood points. Having a bad back I requested a room all on one level without stairs near the elevator. We were upgrated to an executive room facing the canal. The room was beautiful. They called after we went up to make sure we liked it and to ask if there was anything they could do for us. They knew it was my Birthday and even left me a present which was a very nice touch. There are also 2 bottles of complementary water in the room. There wasn't much drawer space but I felt there was plenty and I bring everything but the kitchen sink. The bathroom had heated floors, the shower pressure was great and the water really hot. Plenty of towels and amenities were left daily and replaced. They came in every night to turn down the beds, left us chocolate and a cookie and turned the radio on very low. The beds were super comfortable. They even left a note with pillow choices. I hated to leave the room. I looked for all the dirt people talked about in their reviews but didn't find any - I also didn't see any mice. I have also posted pictures so you can see the room - it was room 704.

The conceirge made all our dinner reservations which were excellet. Two of the places we went were The Dylan and Moeders all in walking distance. This area is the Jordan district. Its very safe and quiet at night. We took a day trip to Brugge - they printed all the train schedules out for us and brought them to the room. The converter I had didn't seem to be working so I made a request to borrow one - they had it up to me in less than 5 minutes! I travel alot and can be very critical when it comes to judging places - the service here was excellent. We didn't eat at the hotel so I can't speak for the food, but we found a great place for breakfast right around the corner. There is also a great bar at the other corner. We spend a considerable amount of time there.

This hotel is about 6 blocks from Dam square so its convenient to everything. The tram is 1/2 block away but since its a very pretty town we walked most of the time even though we had bought a train pass. I highly recommend the private canal tour the hotel offers. It was worth every penny of the 38 euro they charged per person. Our guide was so pleasant and knowledgeable I am so glad we decided to do this. We also went to the Ice cold bar, Anne Frank House, Dam Square, Red Light District, Flower market, Rijksmuseum, Alpert and Waterlooplein Markets and many other places all within walking distance or a short tram ride. I will tell you though that you must be careful of bikes, there are more of them than cars so be mindful when crossing the street.

This was my second time to Amsterdam. The first time I stayed closer to the Dam area which was noisy. This location was great because with a short walk you can get to all the action but also get a good nights sleep. I definately recommend this hotel and would even stay here again even if I had to pay for the room.

We stayed on points and because of Platinum status and availability we were upgraded to a two-story loft overlooking the canal in the front of the hotel. The service was great, the location was perfect, and we loved every minute of it. There are a few scuffs here and there and if you look closely there are signs of wear and tear, but the overall experience was great. Would recommend to others, but understand that the experience may be dependent upon room choice/rate.

Arrived too early for check-in ( 9a.m) but wanted to leave our bag with the hotel so that we could go exploring. The very helpful front desk lady said that was no problem and our room would be ready in an hour !

Our room overlooked an internal garden, not the canal, but as we were only there for one night it was not an issue. Bathroom was quite small, but very good shower, plenty of toiletries and towels, and two bathrobes.

Highlight of the room was the bed. It was like being swallowed by a huge marshmallow! Very, very comfy with good linens. When we arrived back around 10.30p.m the bed has been turned down, the radio was playing quietly, slippers placed by the side of the bed and chocolates had been left. It's always nice when someone else does that for you!

The hotel runs a boat tour with its own private boat that leaves from in front of the hotel. The boat is almost 100 years old and has been superbly restored with woods, brass and stained glass. The tour leaves at 5p.m and we arrived back around 6.25p.m. It was worth staying at the Pulitzer for this reason alone. As the boat is smaller than the larger tour boats, you can go different places and if you see something of interest, the captain is happy to stop and descibe things to you.Excellent tour.

After check-out the next morning, the hotel was happy to have our bags until we left for the airport, and when we arrived to collect them, the porter remembered our name.

Couldn't fault any of the staff we met, all very friendly and helpful.Room was clean, bar service excellent, hotel in great location ( far enough from the madness of Dam Square, near enough to walk). We had a great , if short, stay.

  • Liked — Hotel's own private boat
  • Disliked — Incredible tiny public toilets!
