“A Unique Dutch Experience, The Best Of Its Kind”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 13, 2011

The Pulitzer hotel was a delightful and unexpected surprise. I had intrepidations but our travel agent never disappoints. From the moment we arrived to the moment we left everything was truly exceptional. Unique in its design as it is created from 25 restored 17 and 18 century canal houses situated right in the Jordaan overlooking the Prinsengracht canal. Arriving from the US at 8:30 a.m. we thought we'd have to wait a long time for our room, but the staff worked their magic and we waited only a short time. In any case, there are plenty of quiet (and semi private) sitting areas in the lobby including an espresso cafe where Lambert worked his magic to keep us awake. I was on business and although the rooms were not as small as anticipated, it was easier to talk and have brief meetings in those lobby areas. The bedroom and bathroom were very nicely appointed and the bed was one of the comfiest. Our room overlooked the inner courtyard which was very quiet and restful with lovely gardens. The Dutch treats left in our room everyday were nice touch. The orchid arrangements in the lobby were brilliant, truly unusual and delightful to see (my husband is a hobbyist) so kudos to the florist as well. We had breakfast in the hotel's restaurant everyday. Food was a superb mix of Continental, Dutch and American--we never really needed lunch! Another wonderful point is the hotel is very central. Getting around Amsterdam in trams is a must. They are easy to navigate and just a few steps from the hotel. We highly recommend taking the hotel's canal tour of the city. Although a tad more expensive than the regular canal cruises, the boat itself dates back to the early 1900s and is much more intimate and exquisite along with the hotels very knowledgable captain…the boats more famous passengers were Churchill and Queen Wilhelmina riding around Amsterdam immediately after WW2. If there is one negative is the fees for wifi. Most hotels of this stature can afford to provide this service free to their guests. We highly recommend this hotel to everyone and will return.

Room Tip: Ask for courtyard or canal view

After reading tons of reviews and checking out various hotels in Amsterdam, I decided to stay at the Hotel Pulitzer. I couldn't have made a better choice. From the moment we arrived, throughout our stay, and till we left, the staff at Hotel Pulitzer ensured that we had a memorable and lovely stay. The location is Amsterdam at its best--canals, tree-lined streets, and classy. Centraal Station, Dam Square, and the Reikjsmuseum are all within walking distance. Our room was so comfortable and elegant and overlooked a tranquil inner courtyard. The quaintness of the hotel was an added bonus, including the narrow staircases, numerous corridors, etc. The staff was always smiling and ready to help. I must say that the concierge service was especially great. All in all, the Hotel Pulitzer will remain an indelible souvenir of Amsterdam.

Room Tip: Contact the hotel personally and follow up.

25 beautiful old canal houses nestled among gardens and canals were connected to create an inner city paradise, the hotel Pulitzer. We arrived exhausted from the states and could not imagine a more pleasant greeting and check-in. The hotel accommodated my walking handicap so thoughtfully by arranging a ground level room for us. The room, on an inner courtyard, was blissfully quiet. The bath was stately and the bed might be the most comfortable we ever fell into. Was it a cloud?
But, a hotel is not simply brick and stone. The human element is a huge factor to consider when judging a property.
To the entire staff, from the friendly check-in to the room attendant who provided yet another stroopwaffel cookie to enjoy to both outstanding Clef d'Ors Concierges to Lambert in the Expresso Bar who treated us so kindly, we say Thank You. One cannot say enough good things about the Pulitzer. We cannot wait to return.

We stayed at the Pulitzer for two days on May 19 before a cruise. My wife and I had a canal view room on the 4th floor (highly recommended). The hotel is beautifully appointed and the staff was very helpful. The location was perfectly situated near the Jordaan and half a block away from the tram, which we used to get everywhere in Amsterdam. (We purchased the IAmsterdam card at the airport which was a great value) The restaurant is highly rated, but expensive so we didn't use it. If you can afford it, or can use Starwood points, we would highly recommend this hotel.

Great location, clean, modern, wonderful staff. They and others need to get over trying to charge for internet and especially such a high price for a service one can find down the street for free.

Room Tip: We were on points so.....:-)

My wife and I stayed at the Hotel Pulitzer for 2 nights in May just before boarding an AMA Waterways river cruise to Budapest which was great.

Staying at the Pulitzer was a fabulous beginning for our trip. The hotel is beyond excellent. The staff are friendly and very helpful. The food is superb and the location is the best. I would recommend this property absolutley.
