The Pulitzer hotel was a delightful and unexpected surprise. I had intrepidations but our travel agent never disappoints. From the moment we arrived to the moment we left everything was truly exceptional. Unique in its design as it is created from 25 restored 17 and 18 century canal houses situated right in the Jordaan overlooking the Prinsengracht canal. Arriving from the US at 8:30 a.m. we thought we'd have to wait a long time for our room, but the staff worked their magic and we waited only a short time. In any case, there are plenty of quiet (and semi private) sitting areas in the lobby including an espresso cafe where Lambert worked his magic to keep us awake. I was on business and although the rooms were not as small as anticipated, it was easier to talk and have brief meetings in those lobby areas. The bedroom and bathroom were very nicely appointed and the bed was one of the comfiest. Our room overlooked the inner courtyard which was very quiet and restful with lovely gardens. The Dutch treats left in our room everyday were nice touch. The orchid arrangements in the lobby were brilliant, truly unusual and delightful to see (my husband is a hobbyist) so kudos to the florist as well. We had breakfast in the hotel's restaurant everyday. Food was a superb mix of Continental, Dutch and American--we never really needed lunch! Another wonderful point is the hotel is very central. Getting around Amsterdam in trams is a must. They are easy to navigate and just a few steps from the hotel. We highly recommend taking the hotel's canal tour of the city. Although a tad more expensive than the regular canal cruises, the boat itself dates back to the early 1900s and is much more intimate and exquisite along with the hotels very knowledgable captain…the boats more famous passengers were Churchill and Queen Wilhelmina riding around Amsterdam immediately after WW2. If there is one negative is the fees for wifi. Most hotels of this stature can afford to provide this service free to their guests. We highly recommend this hotel to everyone and will return.
