Should have written long ago on a wonderful trip to Amsterdam. My "friend" is quite the cannibis conniseur, and had a blast, but I was there strictly for some luxury relaxation and escapism. This was THE place for it.

Room services including cleaning and food services were seamless and efficient!.

Our room faced the front of the hotel ( and was nearly directly over the front entrance with a generous view of the canal Prinsingract--sp? It was late fall and a little cool but everything about the hotel spelled deluxe. Our room was VERY large for a standard room and was about 200euros nightly but well worth it. We were afraid we were going to be stuck with the average "European Suite" the itty bitty room with the giant price, but not so. It could see how difficult it would be for a physically challenged person to navigate for there were many, many steps up and down through the connected houses as you moved toward your room. The room was well worth it however. The bath was all marble with a rainshower head sprayer and a couple of other fixtures there that I havent ever seen since elsewhere. The turn down service was timely as well. The hotel restaurants were VERY expensive and so we ventured down to Dam Square for good eats of all different nationalities.

Overall, the cleanliness, classic style and spaciousness of the hotel room and general helpfulness of the staff made this hotel stay worth the price. I would stay here again in the warm season and request the same room for a fabulous view!

  • Liked — Classic Elegance of Room and Bath
  • Disliked — Multiple stairs that connected the many 17th century houses together that make up the hotel.

If I need to say just one thing about this hotel, it is the service.
That is what makes this hotel so well-reputated.
The rooms are fine and well maintained. I was upgraded to a room with a canal view, and both the room and the view were so nice. The room was relaxing, the bathroom was perfect, the housekeeping was more than perfect.
Also, the hotel staff at the breakfast room were all very kind and polite and attentive.
Before my this trip to Amsterdam, I was in London and stayed at Sanderson and now I can easily judge that there was no service or housekeeping at that Sanderson hotel at all (I posted a review).
If I ever go to Amsterdam again, I would definitely stay at this Pulitzer hotel again.
Any downside? Well, very expensive.

The Pulitzer is an average hotel at an inflated price. I will start by saying that I stayed her on business, and since I was not footing the bill, the nearly $500/night (US) room was a little easier to swallow. That said, my room was small (which you expect in Amsterdam) with a confortable bed, but it faced, quite literally, a wall, with nothing but a vacant courtyard below. If I had been on vacation and/or paying for this myself, I would have either demanded another room, or left the Pulitzer and stayed at one of the many bed and breakfasts in the area at half the price.

The good things:
1. Nice location
2. The public areas are very nice, as are the views from many of the rooms (just not mine)
3. Comfortable beds
4. Nice marble bathrooms with decent supplies

The bad things:
1. The concierge was downright rude. I asked for directions to the Van Gough museum. He waved his hand toward the top of the street and told me to "take a tram". I asked about the hotel boat (the information in the room indicated they had a boat to take canal tours so you wouldn't be in the tourist masses). He told me to go to Central Station and take a tour boat. I found out later the hotel does indeed have a boat which goes out regularly for tours.
2. The view from my room was a joke. Others were nice. Confirm the view before you arrive if you care.
3. The food at the hotel was massively overpriced, even for Amsterdam.
4. My husband tried to call me five times from the US and the front desk (night) staff repeatedly hung up on him.
5. Wireless access was $27 US (per 24 hours). I understand most B&Bs offer this free of charge.

Overall, I suggest you look for a moderately priced B&B where they include breakfast and wireless access instead of spending a lot of money on the Pulitzer. You can walk through the Pulitzer and check out the public areas, which are nice/interesting, but ultimately, it's not worth the $$ they charge.

Just returned from a weekend break in Amsterdam. My husband booked the trip for my birthday, and as usual we used TripAdvisor to research the hotels, and once again it came up trumps. The hotel Pulitzer is located (in our opinion) in an ideal location. It is a 5minute walk to Dam Square & all the other sights are within walking distance, yet it is away from the hustle and bustle of the city centre, yet well placed surrounded by bars, café's and restaurants.

Room: We had an executive room which had a split level with two further beds in the loft area, accessed by stairs. This room would be ideal for a family, but not with very small children as the stairs were fairly steep. We didn't use this part of the room, but it made the rest of the room nice and airy with exposed beams in the ceiling. The bathroom was fairly small, but not a problem, lovely toiletries were provided. The room itself was great and we had views out over the gardens.

Hotel Staff: Very polite and helpful. When we arrived our room wasn't ready (we were early) so they offered for us to leave our bags (checked in with a ticket) and provided us with a map and pointed out some local sights. When we returned our room was ready and our luggage followed 5mins later. Staff were always happy to offer their personal recommendations on restaurants.

Breakfast: Superb, one of the best breakfasts we have experienced whilst travelling in Europe. There was a lot of choice and we never needed lunch!

Sights: Visited the Anne Frank House (very moving) & the Heineken Brewery (good value and fun).

Would stay in this hotel if we were to return to the city

City Tax - beware, if you book through Expedia etc you need to pay a city tax on check out. Although this wasn't a great amount, when the rooms are fairly expensive, it wasn't expected, would have been nice to know about this on check-in.

This is a nice hotel considering it is a collection of old houses (which is part of the charm). The hotel is next to a canal and in a trendy area of Amsterdam. Service is excellent and the beds are very comfortable. We had a room with a loft. The main floor had a double bed and the loft had two single beds. The staircase to the loft was steep and difficult to navigate. All tourist attractions are within walking distance. Overall, I recommend staying at the hotel.
