“Expensive”

This gallery has built it's reputation off pretty much a handful of paintings, rembrandt's nightwatch and a few vermeers'. The rest of the collection was average. There weren't too many people there with it being midweek in January. I guess we're spoiled in the UK as our important galleries and museums are free.

“Awesome”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 15, 2014

It's taken a long time to re-open this amazing museum completely; but definitely worth a wait! What I thought was really nice was the application you can download and follow different types of tours, which makes your trip even better!

“Wonderful building, marvellous treasures”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 15, 2014

Superb collection of Netherlands art. Ten hours spent there over two days was not nearly enough. The admission price €15 covers a whole year! Loved the room devoted to the young Rembrandt. Restaurant was excellent also: nice meals, very good service.

“Remembered the old museum...”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 15, 2014

So of course the art here is incomparable. But I actually remember the old museum quite well and I liked the groupings better before. They seem to have now put together paintings in such a way that one wouldn't get overwhelmed. But I had such a memorable visit around 20 years ago of the Rembrandt room and the room with all the floral still lives, and the room with the Vermeer's and Steen's that I felt a little cheated. I also listened for 6 hours to the recording back then. This time there were fewer recordings attached to paintings. For example, I remember studying the Murder of the Innocents painting years ago and listening attentively to the recording that accompanied it and none was there this time. For some of us who love the Vermeer's and Steen's, we would want a little commentary on all of them, not just the select ones.. See my review of the cafe separately but just to let you know here -- horrible service!
