“Perfect B&B for a long week-end in Amsterdam”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 22, 2014

Bees B&B is the perfect place for a calm and greatly located B&B inside Amsterdam. You are in the heart of Amsterdam, close to everything and in a very calm environment. The place is perfectly located closed to the Anna Franck's house and so calm that you will not believe to be in the center of Amsterdam.
The room is nicely decorated with all the needed comfort. You feel there like at home except that you do not have anything to do :-) The breakfast is amazing.
We do recommend this place and we look forward going there again in a near future.

Bees B&B is a lovely place in a great location on the Leliegracht Canal. The best pizzaria in Amsterdam is two doors down, and the excellent Restaurant de Luwte is right next door. The location is convenient to public transportation, and just about anything you need is within walking distance. The surrounding area is beautiful and quite safe. Hans & Brigitte are wonderful hosts, who are helpful in every way. Late on night I sent them an e-mail inquiring as to local pharmacies, as I had developed a quite bad blister on my foot. By the morning there was a note outside my door giving me directions to the nearest pharmacy, and also blister plasters and antiseptic wipes for my foot, taken from their own medicine cabinet! It's a wonderful place to stay.

Amsterdam is a charming city and Bees B&B is in a particularly lovely location. Situated on a small side canal between the Herengracht and Keizersgracht, it is quiet, peaceful and picturesque whilst still being close to restaurants, cafes, bars and also many sights. We found being close to stops on all three of the canal bus routes very useful and there was also a bike hire shop at the junction with Prinzengracht which was very convenient. These transport options formed the basis of two great days exploring the city and along the Amstel (by bike), doing very little other than enjoying the beautiful buildings and scenery. The Western Church is also just around the corner, offering one of the few views of the city from above (the roof of NEMO is also a great place for a view over the city as well as a pleasant space in itself).

The apartment itself was also everything we wanted. We enjoyed staying in a canal house and the apartment was clean, comfortable, attractive and very well equipped. The bed was very comfortable, the bathroom was nicely fitted and the small kitchenette provided everything we needed & more. Hans provided a lovely breakfast with fresh fruit, freshly squeezed orange juice, fresh rolls and croissants each morning. More breakfast supplies were provided in the room - including a choice of cereal, yoghurts, meats, cheeses, milk, butter, jams & honey. The room also had a good sized TV - which was particularly appreciated as we were staying during the world cup! Hans and Brigitte were also very thoughtful in providing DVD's (and a player), some games, a good supply of guide books, visitor leaflets for many attractions, business cards for restaurants/ cafes with useful comments added & even a first aid kit! I enjoyed reading one of the guidebooks about 'doing nothing in Amsterdam' as this summed up our idea of a relaxing stay and was also an entertaining read.

Hans and Brigitte were very welcoming and dealt with our booking very efficiently - it was helpful being able to pay the deposit using paypal. They kindly allowed us to have early access to the apartment as it was available and also kept our bags at their apartment after checking out as we had a late departure.

We had a wonderful stay in Amsterdam and Bees B&B provided an ideal base for us. As some other reviews have mentioned, the stairs to the first floor are steep and should you have any mobility difficulties, you may wish to speak to Hans and Brigitte to help you judge whether the apartment is still suitable for you. Provided the stairs are not a problem for you - this is a great choice when staying in Amsterdam.

We have had a really great time here!
Bees B&B is located in an old, beautiful house at the Leliegracht. It's very central, just a 10 Minute-walk to the Dam Square, but also quiet and relaxing. Many other places and monuments to see around and the tram stop is nearby, also a canal cruise stop is just a few minutes-walk away.
Hans and Brigitte are kind and helpful, they responded quickly to our questions we had before the arrival and gave us good advice for parking.
(If you are traveling by car, we can just recommend to park at the Q-Park P&R Garage at Bos en Lommer. We payed 4 € for 92 hours and got the tram tickets for the journey to the city and back for a smaller price. With the tram line 14 it's just a 20 Minute ride from the Q-Park Garage to Bees B&B)
Hans gave us a warm welcome and shared many valuable informations and tips with us to make sure, we have an enjoyable stay!
The room is tastefully furnished and clean.
We found everything we needed for our stay: a comfortable bed, a well stocked fridge (including fresh cheese, salami and ham, different yoghurt, juice and milk) and fresh towels. Also a TV, a DVD player, DVD's and board games, a hairdryer and a full equipped little kitchen!
The Breakfast was great, we had bread rolls, fresh orange juice, eggs and a delicious fresh fruit salad every morning!
We are very happy with booking Bees B&B and will surely come again one day!
Thank you very much, Brigitte and Hans!

We spent a most enjoyable four nights at Bees B&B. Hans & Brigitte made us very welcome and Hans very kindly shared a wealth of knowledge with us to make our stay more enjoyable. The apartment was clean & very comfortable with both ensuite bathroom incl. a very nice shower as well as a small kitchenette and table to sit up at. Lots of local information and recommendations were provided as well as a selection of walks books. The fridge was well stocked with food & drink and a breakfast tray was provided every morning including the most perfectly cooked boiled eggs. The apartment is very central giving good access to anywhere in the city. We would not want to stay anywhere else and would thoroughly recommend anyone to try it for themselves.

What a fantastic location for a short stay in Amsterdam. We loved the area around Bees B&B so much. It's a perfect mix of beautiful, peaceful, and relaxing; with great places to eat, drink and chill out on it's doorstep. A short walk from the railway station, and the tourist areas of Dam Square and red light district, but tucked away from it all, in what feels like a more 'local' area.
The apartment was as lovely as expected (we had high expectations, having read the reviews) - clean, beautifully decorated and upkept, and with thoughtful touches like the fridge stocked with meats, cheeses and an arrival beer!
Our tip for Anne Frank Huis (if you don't manage to book in advance, like us) is to try in the evening as we noticed the queues were much shorter later in the day. No queue at all at 8pm on Friday, which staff seemed genuinely surprised by).
Also the amazing pizza shop next-door shuts at 10pm - don't miss out like we did by arriving at 10.03! Gutted isn't the word...
Finally - our stay was massively improved by the Tripadvisor city guide app, which meant we found some great places to visit (including Metropolitan for amazing ice creams, chocs and waffles; and Winkel 43 for yummy apple pie).
I hope to return one day...

Although we would agree the location of the apartment was good and Hans and Bridgette were accommodating, this was not a bed and breakfast. Yes, we received breakfast on a tray every morning but it was ALWAYS exactly the same and after a couple of days our cheese was dried out. Room was never straightened or cleaned. We did ask for clean towels once and got them, but didn't feel as if that should've been up to us. Perhaps if we also had only stayed a few nights everything would've been fine, but we were there 5 nights and it was just too long.

Room Tip: If you want a B&B, find a different location.

Brigitte L, Owner at Bees B&B, responded to this review, June 17, 2014
We were rather surprised to see your comments on TripAdvisor. In general, guests choose a B&B in order to ensure more privacy during their stay. Therefore, unlike hotel services, bedrooms are not straightened or cleaned daily, unless especially requested. A daily change of linen and towels is also particular to hotel services. For stays longer than three days, we do offer clean towels. When guests make specific requests, we always do our utmost to oblige.

In our initial e-mail contact, we detail the extensive breakfast assortment. Guests also have the opportunity to order extras for a special breakfast for a minimal charge. Extra items are available in the refrigerator which we are happy to replenish upon request.

B&B owners are usually very happy to provide extra ‘concierge’ services. In this instance, we have researched alternative accommodation for your friends, planned and printed your train routes and timetables, personal e-mails and boarding passes.

We hope that you enjoyed visiting the many wonderful sights in Amsterdam and that on future visits you will be able to select accommodation more appropriate to your expectations.
