“Great Location, Perfect Apartment”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 16, 2013

We are from the U.S. and found MNQUE Bed & Breakfast through Airbnb.com and couldn't have asked for a better place to stay in Amsterdam. We stayed in the studio apartment on the second floor and it was just perfect-charming, clean, bright, amazing bed, great location, and a very friendly and helpful host. The stairs going up are a bit steep but after the first climb you get used to it!

Everything you need is provided-TV, free wifi, small bathroom and kitchen area, wardrobe, table, etc. Monique also supplies several Amsterdam guide books and suggestions of her favorite places to visit in the area and beyond. This location is walking distance to all the main sites in Amsterdam and the 1, 2, and 5 trams stop right around the corner, it doesn't get much easier.

Oh, and did I mention the bed? Yes...I did...but I'm going to mention it again. It is a Tempurpedic and it is possibly the most comfortable bed I've ever slept on-and my fiancé with back issues agrees!

If we returned to Amsterdam I would stay at Mnque Bed & Breakfast again in a heartbeat and I would highly recommend it to anyone. Monique is the best!

Brilliant location to stay in Amsterdam, right in the centre, opposite apparently one on the best pubs in town. Room was very clean, spacious (had a room on the first floor), big bed! There was a lot of information on what to see etc. the only thing that was missing was a hair dryier which was supposed to be there. Would ba handy on cold day in Dec. there is a lot of breakfast places around so don't go for a b&b, go and explore the town.
Staircase is VERY steep, so large suitcase not recommended;)

my fiancee and I were here at mnuqe for the first time (its not the first time in amsterdam tho), monique was very nice and friendly and showed us the room with patient even tho we arrived late at night.
the room was on the 2th floor, and its hard to carry our suitcase but its only for one time the stairs is not that big deal without the suitcases. our room was just perfect! dreamy bad, espresso machine, fridge, and a full equipped kitchen!! the bathroom was large and all the room was very modern and stylish....
WERE can you find all this in a hotel??? you just CAN'T! its just feel like you have your own apartment in amsterdam because monique has her own apartment on the top floor, she was there for us only when we needed her, and the rest of the time she gave us our privacy like a nice neighbor.
we love amsterdam and we surly come back and visit monique!!!

thank you monique for a lovely stay.

My fiancee and I just spent a holiday weekend in Amsterdam and booked a room at Monique's B&B through AirBnb. It was our first time using AirBnb but Monique was very communicative over email after we booked with her, answered all of our questions and made herself very available the first day we were there to make sure we got settled nicely. She had guidebooks of the city, a couple of the good local attraction pamphlets (check out the boat tour, great start to a trip and only about an hour, do it at dusk.)

Her flat is dead in the middle of where you want to be, without being on Dam Square with all the hustle and tourists. It's also across the street from what we thought was the best coffeeshop in Amsterdam, Tweede Kamer. Around the corner was an awesome Indonesian noodle place that was quick and delicious for refueling meals during partying/touristing.

Monique had two sets of keys (which was great) and the bed was definitely a Tempur-pedic which I had never slept on before and was supremely comfortable. I'm looking forward to booking with Monique again in the spring/summer as its my new favorite city (knocking out Reykjavic).

Room Tip: There are two rooms it would seem, both are set up the same way and are very modern with old world c...

This place is just ideally located! It's in the very center of Amsterdam but yet in an authentic and atmospheric street, full of cool places (like two famous squats), restaurants and right in front of one of the prettiest squares in the city.
We got a key with pendant Dutch shoes :) from the friendliest host Monique and all the necessary information on the room (there are more than enough facilities in the room to cook yourself if you need). The room itself is bright and spacious, pleasantly decorated, with typical large windows, that is the best thing about Amsterdam. Another peculiarity is extremely narrow stairs that for us was a funny attraction).
Regarding the breakfast, we didn't have it, though there are plenty of coffee-rooms around.
Amsterdam is one of the best places for a holiday as such, but staying at MNQUE made it absolute rapture!

We were really happy with our stay and our room.

Our studio was bright and well furnished, with a kitchen and bath to ourselves. It looked out into the street, and the large windows in the morning really let the light in and brightened the place up even more. The room was perfectly clean when we arrived with some great information and maps available about Amsterdam.

The bed was probably the best bed we slept in our entire trip. I think it might have been memory foam.

The bathroom was nicely modern, but a little small. Not to much space if you have a lot of toiletries, but perfectly adequate otherwise.

The kitchenette had everything we needed, though we never actually used it. There was, however, a Nespresso machine that was great for getting us up in the morning.

Also, wifi was included as was the use of the washer and dryer (much needed!) located in the closet right outside of our room .

Monique was a great host. She gave us a warm welcome and was very helpful whenever help was needed. My girlfriend needed a hairdryer and because the one in the room had just broken, Monique was happy to lend us hers (she lives right upstairs). The next day, she had bought a new one and laid it out for us. Also, there was a small problem with the bathroom, but one call and it was fixed.

As for the breakfast part - I am not sure if she does this herself, as she works another job, or if there is some other arrangement with another restaurant nearby. We had planned to eat out in the morning anyways, so we never asked about it.

The location was great. Right in the center, with great restaurants right downstairs.

All in all, it was a really great stay, with nothing at all to complain about and some pleasant surprises. So glad we decided not to stay in a boat house!

I just happened upon this B&B on another website while searching for decent, moderately priced (under 110 Euros) accommodations for a two night trip to Amsterdam with another couple. This two room B&B was brand new having just opened their doors in, I believe it was, April of 2010.

Positives:
• Great central location for walking to all the sights; the area felt clean and safe with plenty of bars and restaurants right outside the door
• Large new rooms with big comfy beds
• In room kitchenette containing cook top, coffee maker, mini refrigerator, sink and all the kitchen items you’d need with a small dining table.
• Laundry facilities
• Relatively quiet with the windows closed
• Great price (we paid 99 Euros/night) for what you get
• The owner, Monique, was very quick to respond to email inquiries and friendly when we arrived. She was nice enough to let us stay as long as we liked our last day there since the rooms were not rented that evening.
• You could pay 15 Euros/person for breakfast if you wanted it but we chose to grab some danishes at a bakery at the end of the block.

Things to be aware of:
• Cash only payment; a deposit of 25% of our total bill was requested to be wired to the owners account in Euros, which is not a common practice for us in the US and incurs a significant fee. I would have preferred to use a credit card and pay an added fee for the convenience.
• Steep stairs; if you cannot climb the equivalent of a ladder with your luggage, you may have a problem. We were all in our early 30s and pack lightly so this wasn’t a problem, but you definitely wouldn’t want to attempt the stairs if you were intoxicated!
• No hair dryer
• No Air conditioning which wouldn’t be a problem in Amsterdam because it normally doesn’t get that hot, but it was 80 degrees when we were there. Window ventilation would have been fine in the evenings but the bars and restaurants on the street below make that impossible if you have difficulty sleeping in noisy areas.
• Poor lighting in the bathroom make it difficult to put on makeup or shave.
• The mirror in our bathroom (the only one in our whole room) was so high that if you weren’t at least 5’9”, you would not be able to use it unless you were standing on something.
• No full length mirror in our room but I think our friend’s room did have one.
• No sign identifying the B&B, you just had to go off the address; we also had a little difficulty getting to the front door some times due to the sidewalk café tables of the restaurant on the first floor.

All and all the positives out weighed the negatives and I would definitely stay here again if I am ever in Amsterdam.
