5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 11, 2011 via mobile

Beautiful boutique hotel...stylish rooms very romantic! Brill hotel owners..it was my bfs 35th and they chucked in some free extras including bottle of champs and rose petals in the shape of 35 also balloons! perfect breakfeast is limited however quality and will hold you to lunch time very fresh!
1 tiny tiny bad thing either the drains or the shower curtain smelt slightly damp! However we checked into another room by mistake before this and there was no problem of this..
overall if U want a romantic stay perfect boutique clean stylish hotel this is the 1
Location absolutley perfect in the centre of everywhere near station by red light district and dam square...

Mauro is located very close tithe Centraal station, and a very short distance away from the Dam, the red light district, etc etc. it's on a quiet street facing a canal. I stayed here 5 nights n enjoyed myself in Amsterdam thoroughly, even staying in on a couple of nights - I was tired n room was very inviting in itself with the DVD player, n a stack of DVDs to choose from, at the reception..

I wud rate the hotel very highly, but will add the following cautionary notes in any case:
1. Arriving at night is a bit troublesome for the 1st timer,, as getting out of the train station it gets dark, n you need to find your way there.
2. Steps are steep if you stay on the top (3rd?) floor, but manageable by most.
3. You can't help this, but some guests like to do "IT" at any time between 9pm - 2am. I did wish I did not have to experience the groans n moans, but alas.. In any case, this is the only thing that dampened my experience somewhat... (even the cold wintry fog was quite nice in the city!)

Enjoy yr stay here!

Mauro Mansion met our expectations perfectly. The location only a few blocks from the train station is ideal. We were able to easily walk to major sites of interest. Our room on the third floor was comfortable and enjoyed a lovely view of the canal. The bathroom was clean and functional. Breakfast of high-quality local ingredients was excellent. There was a nice selection of tasty meats and cheeses plus juices and freshly baked breads. The coffee maker was available day and night, as was a computer and iPad. Most importantly, the pleasant hosts were present with wise advice about activities and restaurants. They are charming and justifiably proud of their small and lovely hotel. We recommend Mauro Mansion without reservations if you can climb the circular staircase that is an architectural feature of the canal house.

Spent a weekend in Amsterdam and after spending ages researching hotels, I looked on Tripadvisor, saw this site as the #1 and booked it.

The hotel is in a great location (especially if you have a poor sense of direction as all you have to do to get home at night is find a tram or bus that stops at the Central Station) and you get very good directions from the station from the hosts.

I stayed in room 11 on the ground floor and even though it was at ground level there was no problem with noise from outside (apart from one night when someone decided to beep their horn outside at 2am but it was that loud that even the best double glazing wouldn't be able to cope).

The room was simple but had everything you could need (and free wi-fi) but a great change from identikit chain hotel rooms. Where else would you get an old wooden wardrobe to put your clothes and it was nice to have a little sweet treat on the pillow each day.

Breakfast was great - fresh bread, juices, cereal, yogurt, cheese and a special something each day (in my case - fresh melon and yogurt with fruit).

Even though the hotel is within walking distance of the Red Light District, most places in that area are and walking round, nowhere seemed a bad area to be in - Amsterdam is such a laid back place that it's a treat to walk round.

Didn't need to use the honesty bar but everything seemed very reasonably priced (certainly nowhere near what you would pay in a chain hotel).

We stayed here for two nights in February 2011 and enjoyed a wonderful stay. As other reviewers have so eloquently said - the location is excellent with easy access from the main station. With lovely views over the canal, our room was spacious and stylish and had many nice modern features that complimented the authentic feel of this hotel.

The odd creaking floorboard matched with an iPod docking station worked well together if that makes sense. The old and the new work effortlessly together - as do the managers of this establishment, who couldn't do enough to help. The bathroom was a little on the small size but by the standards for a city centre location was plenty big enough.

I hadn't realised it was ranked as No1 on Trip Advisor for Amsterdam [at the time of writing] when we made the booking but now knowing this - it is truly worthy of it's position.

All in all, a great location, stylish hotel, with great hosts, many facilities and special touches that made our stay a fabulous one. Would definitely return and will certainly recommend.

Room Tip: We stayed on the ground floor, at street level at the front and had absolutely no issues with noise...

Spent 2 nights there, we tried 2 rooms, one on ground floor and one on the first floor that we prefered for noise and view, also slightly bigger.

It was our first visit in Amsterdam so for us the location was perfect, not far from central station, not far from all the things to do.

Rooms are simple and really clean but nothing special, not the big Wow.
Breakfast was ok, the service was good but we did not have any special interaction with the host.

The location was perfect for bus arrival from the Ferry Terrminal and Train. Dropped bags off early and went to my business meeting. Location was good for wife to wander safely around Amsterdam till room was ready. Bags were delivered to our room on 3rd floor which was a relief. The stairs are the most narrow that we've had in Europe and whilst fit enough to use them, its something I'd prefer to avoid in hindsight. Room decor isn't really us, but room was clean. Canal view was lovely and it was quiet. Missed breakfast as it does not start till 9am and we had to leave for early flight and was disappointed that no offer of bread to toast or juice even though owner was slowly getting it ready at 8am.

Worth staying if room tariff is attractive and would stay on the 2nd floor if we returned.
