“Best Way to Learn About Amsterdam”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 12, 2013

We have found that the best way to experience a city is to take advantage of a bike tour. We chose Joy Ride Tours in Amsterdam and booked the Windmills, Clogs and Cheese tour that takes you outside the city. It was fantastic!

The tour was one of the highlights of our time in Amsterdam (and that is saying a lot because Amsterdam has so much to offer). Our tour guide was Yuri (hope I spelled that correctly) and he was great. Entertaining and funny and with a wealth of historical and cultural information on Amsterdam and the countryside. He also gave us an appreciation for the ability that Amsterdam (a city below sea level) has in redirecting and containing the water that surrounds the city. It was fascinating.
We chose the Windmill, Clog and Cheese tour because we wanted to get out of the city and see some of the countryside and because it was a longer tour. 40% of the people in Amsterdam are on bikes so navigating the streets in the city by bike can be a little stressful. You have to watch where you are going and can't really sight see. Getting out of the city was the way to go. The tour was long but not tedious or tiring. You go at an easy pace and make informational and photo stops along the way. Although some reviewers found the the clog and cheese stop a little commercial, we thought it was great. And just sampling the cheese was worth the stop. Do buy a sample of their Gouda. Delicious!
The bikes themselves are sturdy and very comfortable. Nice big seats! They have roomy saddlebags so you can bring a jacket, camera, etc. and definitely bring food with you. This tour does not stop for snacks or lunch.

“The highlight of our Amsterdam trip!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 3, 2013

We were travelling through Amsterdam for 3 days and had booked in with Joy Ride on our first day for the Windmills, Cheese and Clogs tour, and without doubt it was the highlight. Our tour guide was Allison, she was absolutely lovely and provided insightful commentary throughout the day. She also provided us with heaps of recommendations for restaurants and things to do for the rest of our stay. We were both a little nervous about riding bikes (because we haven't ridden since our teenage years!) and in Amsterdam, where there are literally thousands of bikes everywhere. But the tour takes you out of town into the country side (even though its only a few kms outside Amsterdam) and was a relaxed pace and easy ride. We were luckily enough to book in on the last public tour of the season, but Alison mentioned that she also arranges private tours. I would definitely recommend this tour !

“A great day out”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 27, 2013 via mobile

A group of us in Amsterdam for a wedding on a joy ride tour. What fun! The guide managed to cater for a variety of skill levels in bike riding by interspersing the rides with story telling and photo opportunities. I saw a different side to Amsterdam, even venturing out not the surrounding countryside. Yes there are cows within an easy ride of Amsterdam. Highly recommended.

“Great tour of the countryside! ”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 26, 2013

We did the country bike tour today with Alison, and it was fabulous. Very informative and great to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city centre and see some different scenery. Alison (one of the owners) was super friendly and gave us heaps of information (sights, restaurant recommendations etc) too. It was an easy ride and we enjoyed the farm and we did not feel obligated to buy anything but we did purchase some cheese as it was great. Would highly recommend to anyone coming to Amsterdam as a must do!
