5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 17, 2014

Stayed here for 4 nights at the beginning of April. All of the receptionists were extremely friendly and nothing was too much trouble for them. The info they provided about getting around Amsterdam was perfect.
Our room was spacious and clean, nothing to fault. If I was to complain about one thing it would be the price of drinks etc, however, I found Amsterdam to be quite expensive all together not just the hotel. I would definitely recommend this hotel to couples or families wanting to experience Amsterdam without being in the thick of it.

Stayed here 4 nights. Very friendly and helpful staff.
Nice sized room with two comfy chairs, desk with chair, safe, minibar, big wardrobe. Bathroom with regular amenities and hairdryer. Clean and fresh. No noise.

Walking distance from city center - I see some people mention 45 minutes, I would estimate less. Tram is not far and will take you to the center even quicker. You can easily walk to Rijksmuseum and the Van Gogh museum. About 10 minutes walk to the very popular De Pijp area with lots of restaurants, a market, theatres, jazz clubs etc. The hotel is even closer to cozy, small bars like Gambrinus and an awesome music pub called CC, where there's live music every night from around 9-9.30pm. The style of music varies every day, so here you can see brazilian bands one day and a garage rock band the next.

The hotel has a business center with laptops and internet, free wifi in the room, free shuttle from the airport (check online for schedule, the buses do not run late in the evening) and shuttle for 7 euros back to the airport (takes about 20 minutes)

well we booked this hotel for a girly weekend away and saw the reviews which were not too bad, when we arrived we got room 233 i think which was old and so dated. I didn't want to sit on the chairs by the window as they were worn and looked literally about 50 years old and i sit on public transport!the mini bar was sticky and brown dirt inside it which was disgusting. The bathroom too looked like a throwback to the 50's, but when you see the hotel reception you think you're in for a treat which does not happen. On our third and final night we wanted to watch a movie but the movie channel would not work on the TV so reception upgraded us to what we should have got in the first place-a standard type room room 138, fairly modern, clean and a decent view of the canals. We were so shocked at the difference in room standard from for example 2 star to 4 star. They need to standardise there room decor and upgrade the 2 star area immediately or else these kind of reviews will become frequent.
Hamid on reception was very helpful and also sorted out access to wifi which when we checked in we were given the code but its an open network so does not need it initially until someone explains you have to go through a process to access it then it works properly.
I think this hotel needs to hand out info better at check in as this would've helped so much.
The fitness room is quite good with a rowing machine, cycle, running machine, x trainer, free weights and weight machines.
The sleep quality was not amazing only because they have cushion type pillows leave you waking up with pain in the neck and back as i sleep on my front and back! terrible situation get some normal pillows guys!but the beds were comfy
The walk to the centre of amsterdam is 20-40 minutes depending on what part you want, tram is about 5 minutes from the hotel and easy to get to places for just over 2 euros.
The museum area is nice and busy, the natural history museum is worth a visit for an hour or two.

The women in amsterdam are very helpful when out and about when you're a bit lost, men we found not so much! We had a very sunny few days with only a few spots of rain and i'd go back to amsterdam but not this hotel, id stay more central and do a lot more research as if you look through the traveller photos we stayed in the tiredest room I've ever stayed in in a hotel before and I've stayed in a fair few in many countries.

Overall a bit disappointing really for a first stay in amsterdam also we weren't expecting the city tax of 5% a night at check out, oh well hey ho. The canals and amsterdam itself was lovely!

Room Tip: read the reviews and don't get an old room!

Dear Slowjams,

Thank you for taking time to share your comments with us. Your experiences at our hotel are very important to us. Your information will help us to improve our service.

I am really sorry to hear that your first room did not meet up your expectations; I hope that the second room which is a renovated Executive room made you feel better. I would like to inform you about the updating of the rooms, we have recently renovated a part of the hotel and in the near future we are renovating the rest of the hotel. Please be informed that all our Executive rooms have been renovated.

The city tax in Amsterdam is 5.5% and is charged by all hotels (charged by the local municipality). It is a tax payable by anyone staying in Amsterdam (that is not registered as living there), so also for Dutch residents who do not live in Amsterdam.

Your kind words about our concierge Hamid are really appreciated. I will make sure that Hamid will be informed about your positive comments.

Please accept our apologies for the inconvenience you had during your stay in our hotel. We hope that we may welcome you again in the Wyndham Apollo Hotel Amsterdam!

Kind regards,

My wife and I stayed at this hotel for 2 nights. We meet friendly and helpful staff. We had a very nice room with a super view over the canals. Nice breakfast with a great view. The walking distance from the hotel to the center of Amsterdam was no problem (45 min walk). We went to Amsterdam with friends and the location and price for this hotel was very god. Next time we visit Amsterdam we will most likely book the same hotel. Next time we will also try to rent bicycles a good way to get around.

A friend and I stayed at this hotel for a 4 day visit to Amsterdam, right from the start we were impressed with the staff, the room, the location. Our room was newly refurbished and our view over the canals was fabulous. The beds were comfy and cosy just what you need after a full day of sight seeing. The hotel location made it easy to walk to many attractions and the tram system was easy to navigate for those further away places. Eating and drinking in the hotel is on the expensive side, but you are within walking distance of so many great little cafe's and restaurants that this shouldn't be a problem. Suggest an IAmsterdam Pass, made travelling on trams a breeze and lots of little extra's make it worthwhile purchasing. Would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone and fully intend on a return visit. Top tip be mindful of the bike paths easy to wander into and lots of near misses on the first day.

Dear sir/madam,

What a pleasure to read your review of your recent stay with us.
Thank you for sharing the correct public transport options with other travelers. The different day tickets for public transport are indeed a great deal as you can travel with all blue and white trams, busses and metros.

Also, I am very happy to note that you enjoyed our service provided by the employees.

Once again, thank you for your review and we absolutely hope to have the opportunity to welcome you back again
