“Old but clean hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 28, 2013

If you want to like stayin in Floris France Hotel, make sure you book a rook with the windows. Otherwise you will hate it. My first night was in room woth out windows, and I hated it there. But when I've swiched rooms, another night was nice and confortable.
Hotel is clean but old and tired, it need general renovation.
Breakfast was served in pub next door, simple but very nice.

Room Tip: Choose one with windows.

First, the positives: Good location, just 5 minutes walk to Amsterdam Central Station and the trams. Close to the red-light district, the backpackers area and about 15 minutes walk to the main medevial attractions and glitzy departmental stores in the city. Just walk a bit further and you'll hit the shopping streets. Breakfast in the Irish pub next door was delicious and plentiful.
Now, for the negatives: Room felt very cabin-like, with only one small frosted window (I hear some rooms have no windows). Room floors were greasy for some reason and while bathroom wasn't dirty, it wasn't sparkling either. Reception area and lobby could do with some tidying up, the carpets always looked filthy and there was a certain mess to the place. Only 1 tiny and slow elevator serving about 5 floors.

My stay at the Floris France started with the discovery that my room 107 had no window, upon entering the room it smelt of urine and it was almost impossible to get rid of the smell without ventilation.

During my three day stay at the hotel I started to notice bites appearing on my legs and arms, on the final day of the trip I noticed a small reddish bug on the bed and caught it in a cup. After looking it up on the internet, I confirmed that it was a bed bug complete with a full blood meal.

Even the best deal on this hotel won't save you the expense in dry cleaning and pest control that will be required to save your house also being infested! Don't stay here.

This hotel is in a great location, being near central train station, and the breakfast at Irish pub next door was fine, however every thing else about hotel was below standard. The elevator was extremely slow going up and down to room, the room did have a window which looked out onto rooftop next door, and closing bracket on window was broken, the shower doors were very hard to open and close, the shower it self was dirty with mold, there was a grate missing on air handling system up high on wall, there was a plastic container and some small pieces of paper up on the top of the closet and there was a hinge broken on the one doors of the closet.Very noisy in hallway at night.Air quality was very poor in room. This was an over priced hotel room and would not recommend to any one.

After checking through some of the comments posted about this hotel, the actual Floris France came as a surprise.

It has it's weaknesses - many of the rooms don't have access to outside windows (which I imagine is normal for the tightly packed canal front standard buildings in this city), the furniture was fairly basic etc. but it is so convenient for the city, central station, the red light district that the negatives barely mattered.

The hotel is well presented from the outside with a nicely styled lobby - the front desk was staffed at all times and the reception was friendly (in that slightly direct Dutch way - a combo of German efficiency tempered with their famed liberal attitude and healthy command of sarcasm).

The bathroom was clean and fairly up to date. The wardrobe had hangers. The beds were fine - I slept ok (in the few hours I spent in the room between dashing hither and thither between sites and hedonistic experiences!) Our room was just off the lobby, but the walls were substantial enough for the noise not to disturb us and it isn't a huge hotel so there isn't that much traffic.

The breakfast (part of the deal, served at Molly's bar next door) was the typical Dutch spread of eggs, bacon, cold meats with cereals and fruit. Plenty for all, as much as you wanted plus coffee and juice.

I wouldn't recommend it for honeymoons - or any trip when staying around the hotel for a prolonged amount of time is a possibility. It functions as a well presented, basic, convenient base for Amsterdam, especially for larger groups wanting to explore the more colourful side of the city.

Very basic hotel, dated. Reminded me of dorms. The room had old furniture, bathroom needed to be replaced. Windows were at the top of the walls so you couldn't see out. The only good thing about the hotel is it is in a central location close to Central Station and attractions. Breakfast was in the pub next door however the food was good. Think this would be a good hotel if you were backpacking round Amsterdam, not for families.

Oudezijds Kolk! Just tell the taxi-driver that confidently in your best Dutch accent and you'll reach your destination in no time. About 20 mins from Schipol airport on a lazy Sunday morning. Fare is about 45 Euro. (Alternatively just show the driver your hotel booking) Located just on the tip of the redlight district, but you don't need to bother about it as there are plenty of other things to see and do. Many restaurants around, on medieval cobblestone streets, so no cars. Just be careful though, as the footpaths melt into the cycle paths, and those melt into the roadway! Good hotel - 3 star, free WiFi internet that you can access both int he lobby and in your room, that works. Good bathroom, fairly recently renovated (in the European time frame). Room is small, but big enough for 2 single beds pushed next to each other). Relatively clean. Inspect the towels first though - may have stains or the occasional strand of hair. They replace the bath towels daily and are generous with the bathroom tissue. Bring your own tolietries or make do with the public pool style shampoo/soap dispensers. Reception staff helpful. Ask them to help make a taxi booking if you need one. But be prepared for the taxi to be late, especially if it is rush hour. "A bird in hand is worth two in the bush", is the taxi-drivers' motto. The restaurant is the Irish pub next door (Molly Malone's), which serves a decent pint and also doubles as the breakfast place (breakfast included in the room price) from 7am to 10am.

Room Tip: Ask for the attic (4th floor). Avoid the basement of course.
