“Friendly happy stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 16, 2012

We didn’t book through any of the discount booking sites but emailed directly with the hotel. After reading other reviews we didn’t want to book a room with too many stairs because of an old injury. Our initial enquiries were replied to promptly and clearly and we secured a canal view room on the first floor.
If you can handle the stairs, a room higher up could be just as good or even have a better view. Our hostess Nathalie was very strong and insisted on carrying suitcases and bags up the stairs for everyone.
We were lucky enough to be given an upgrade to the deluxe canal view room and it was fabulous. Huge with a great view and opening windows. Bathroom with a shower over the bath. The king size bed was two singles pushed together. Very quiet room – we were directly above the breakfast room and beside the stairs but didn’t hear a thing. The curtains really blocked out the early sunrises too. The small canal room was pretty small so we were very glad of the upgrade. Free wifi.
There was a huge choice for breakfast – cereals, meats, breads, juices and cooked – either eggs or pancakes. Nathalie is the pancake doctor and whips up a variety of her secret recipe each morning on request.
We stayed 2 nights and would stay here again. Location was great too.

We are still impressed by all the hospitality and helpfulness we met in this hotel. There is an incredibly good atmosphere in the reception room that serves also as breakfast and tea place or reading/computer room. The lady running this place is outstanding in many respects.

- rooms comfortable and with nice views onto canals or the backyard
- stairs are very steep (this is Amsterdam...)
- traffic connection good, airport bus within 5min walk / 3 tram lines nearby
- walls in the house are thin, little acoustic isolation
- breakfast for 10 EUR is recommended - all homemade and fresh (pancakes....)

Go and see for yourself, you won't be diointed !!

Room Tip: 1st floor, canal view

A small gem of a hotel. Great location close to busy Leidseplein, with a beautiful canal view. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. The chats at breakfast made for a perfect start to the day. Our room was kept clean and tidy, everything we could ask for. Two very cute cats also made us feel welcome. We will certainly return!

We received a very warm welcome upon arrival and all the staff were very friendly throughout our stay. Our cases were carried to our room (on the top floor) without hesitation, our room was clean and tidy and bigger than expected, and had a good amount of storage / shelf space. There was plenty of room for two suitcases and two people! I think the few reviews about some rooms being too small may come from people used to staying in corporate or American hotels, which tend to be much more roomy than European hotels. There was free wi-fi for as many devices as you needed, which was a nice surprise, especially compared with the corporate hotel we also stayed at where access cost 27 euros per day! The building was clean and tidy and breakfast smelled great. However, we chose to buy food from town instead as it was so close. The hotel is in an excellent location - the only downsides for some people were that the double room had twin beds pushed together (they did move apart during
the night!) and you can hear some noise from the low-flying aircraft overhead. I am a light sleeper and had packed earplugs just in case, so I slept totally fine (as did my partner, who slept perfectly well without them). However, seeing as the planes fly so low over the whole of Amsterdam, I expect the noise can be heard from many hotels. Overall, this was a lovely place to stay and I would recommend it to anyone. I would definitely stay there again.

Room Tip: We stayed on the top floor, so there was no disturbance from other guests using the stairs. The Smal...

I stayed in a canal view room on the second floor, and it was spacious and comfortable with a fantastic view. The weather was cool when I was there, but there was a fan in the room if needed. Like so many of the other reviews, I can't say enough good things about Natalie who helped with my stay and fixed a fantastic breakfast

Room Tip: Second floor canal view. Not too far up the stairs and excellent view.

The Boutique Hotel View is a small gem in the city of canals. It is located at Leidsegracht and Leidsekade, just a few yards away from the Leidseplein plaza. Front facing rooms have canal views which are very special. At other hotels you would pay a premium for canal views, our rate was only 236 Euros including Tourist tax. Our triple room (#203) had a modern and clean decor. (The room was adequate in size, but once the sofa bed was opened, it was difficult to maneuver around.) The bathroom was small, but had all the essentials. The stair case was never narrow, but that is part of the charm of this converted canal house. We had beautiful, warm weather during our stay which was wonderful overall, except that the room did not have A/C. The hotel supplied a large fan, so it was not too uncomfortable. Breakfast was not included in the room rate, it was an extra 10 Euro per person, but that was fine because we were able to find some great pancake restaurants for a fun and tasty breakfast. Natalie is the hostess, the manager and the bell hop! She was great!!!

The best part of the hotel was its location. We walked everywhere --- the Dom plaza, the Red Light district restaurants, the museums and the canal boat dock. Amsterdam is a great city to explore on foot or on a bike. (Beware - there are bikes or trams or cars everywhere!!!)

Room Tip: Make sure to ask for a canal view room.

Great hotel and service. However next time I would go for larger room and not on the ground floor. It was a bit noisy in the morning but it was OK for the price and only one night.

The service was very personal and warm.

Room Tip: Stay in a small room only if you are on tight budget and expect noise in the morning.
